  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

the dream is such

the family is gathered at the dad's house
there are four children
the dad goes in another room
comes back with an ornamental vaselike jar
shorter than a vase
more like a bowl
in the bowl vase are matches
the four children approach the jar with excitement
take out a match
and begin eating them

this dream came to the spouse of one of the children
this is a very close family
two days later the father in reality passes away

can you help with insights on this?
thank you so much

I would say the vase represented the father's life. It was ornamental in that it was beautiful, and it was short because he had little time left. The excitement portrays the children's affection for him, and that they eat the matches means that they are eager to assimilate his spirit.

Blessings.

So sorry about losing a friend/relative.

What strikes me about the matches -- latent potential energy. They can quickly ignite a fire if the kids choose to use them that way. It is like the fields being ripe for harvest, the planting already having been completed.

Wood often refers to man-made efforts, and this might have shown how he crafted and sculpted things with his children and descendents in mind, even remembering to add the match-head -- like a person organizing their ministries so well that someone else taking over would find successful influence quickly.

Thank you, sister. One other thing came to me, that the vase appearing like a bowl speaks of him living generously for others.

It looks more like a reassurance for the family than a predictor of his passing, don't you think? His generosity is shown in the openness of the vase, in proactively going to get something for others, in offering them something prepared with no expectation for reciprocation.

The eating still confuses me, and it almost makes me wonder if the children misinterpreted his generosity -- as though he designated trusts for charities and wanted them to manage them, and instead they consumed them. The matches had the stored potential to do a lot, but not after being eaten.

Didn't want to say too much after this post before anyone else posted
yes, his children loved him very much!

He is my dad. He passed away two months ago. My mom left when I was 7 yrs old, 51 yrs ago. Dad raised us on is own until I was in hs when he married the first of two step-moms. Both died of cancer. We watched two seperate women's children do the most dispicable things while and after their mother died. Greed ran rampant. In one case the children didn't come and visit their mother whole she was dying and came the day after ahe passed and came into my dad's house and started hauling everyhhitng out. My dad was a fighter and a very determined man. They didn't get far. He took care of both women himself with us kids because they were afraid to be in a home or hospital. He did so with so much love! The first stepmom's trial was 5 yrs.

Dad worked a labor job for 33 yrs while investing little pieces here and there. He was a foreman and much respected by his fellow workers. He died not a wealthy man, but for sure not a poor man. He loved the Lord more than anything. He never quit teaching and such til the day he died. He was a rich man in the Lord and a very blessed man. I have now a collection of hundreds and hundreds of Christian teaching and many notebooks full of his personal teaching. He could have taken cruises, anything he chose. But he chose to be home. He loved his little dog, his horses, and his yard and was happy.

His life was hard until the latter yrs, but it didn't phase him. Not only did he raise us kids alone, but there was always one of us kids friends staying at the house because they couldn't go home or whatever the problem. He never turned down helping anyone I ever knew of.

:) Your statement that we would like to assimilate him could not have been more on target. We love the Lord immensely and all have great respect for him. We have much to decide. And we very much want what we do to reflect who he was and what he would have desired.

Your post is also quite on the mark in several ways. Your first paragraph I understand completely, and may be crucial in a way. There is much, much at stake in the manner of future moneys coming in. We must decide on what to do in one issue. That issue will cause a great stir one way or another. In that issue is much, much future money at stake. We most likely will give it away. In this case and one other the money has unlimited possibilities. They literally are fields ripe for harvest. It just doesn't get much more literal. I rather think no matter what choice we make it will ignite a fire. Not only in a sense, but somewhat literally, as well

The statement I bolded is just amazing to me. My dad was a genius. And he never quit learning. His love was wood. He made grandfather clocks and tables and bowls and desks .. you name it, he made it. And they are so beautiful. He was featured recently in the news here for his clocks. His ability to inlay wood was just amazing. And he did those things with his children and descendants in mind.

Also in that statement comes through a very large part of who he was. He lived his whole life building what he called 'his estate'. For all of us. And he left plenty to hand down.

The second part of that statement I bolded is also quite on the mark. He organized all his studies and massive amounts of geneolgy so maticulously it's just crazy. In a manner that they would serve our family for many yrs. And yes, succesful influence is well put. It can do that for sure.

The thing I remember most in this matter is the verse from the friend. My dad literally lives on a hill that is visible from quite a distance. And it is directly on the top of the hill entering the city. I believe it means that what we do can shine for the Lord quite brightly. Or even if it isn't for the Lord it will still be visible.

Oh, yes! He lived generously for others. He was the first man in this valley to have custody of his kids. All his plans for his won life he put away for us kids and his wives. And many benefited from his generosity.

Thank you, HiddenValleys. What a wonderful heritage your father has left you, in a world that is filled with a cruel reality. That kind of life is an inspiration for all of us, so I'm glad you shared.

When I got to the eating of the matches the sense I had was of Holy Communion, in which we partake of the body and blood of the Lord. The Lord wants us to be in much greater communion with Him than just trying to follow His teachings. So, considering the closeness of the family, it seemed a positive interpretation was in order.

He had a trust with everything layed very carefully out. They still have the potential to do a lot. Nothing has been eaten because we haven't distributed anything yet. We are breaking down some of the investments, but there will be some that will go on for our children, the way he did.

There is one issue in all of this that is up in the air. Literally future millions of dollars are at stake. Maybe billions. We will most likely give it away. Not to a charity. Can't explain that part as we're not allowed to at this point. But it will be the right thing to do.

There is a second issue we must decide what to do with. It also will eventually produce millions to billions. Then it will be our time to either give or not. There is an issue with an Indian burial ground. We will choose not to have it disturbed. It will either stop the whole thing or it will be worked around creating much monies. In all events our greatest desire is to do what is right in the sight of God and with great respect to who and what my dad was about.

But the most important thing we want is that the world can see that a family can lose a loved one with much to be gained for the heirs, and do it well and lovingly. We most of all don't want to be like the others in our life who were so greedy they didn't care who they hurt or how.

I am so thankful you put this part!!! I felt that the eating of the matches represented our carrying the same spirit as him. One that was on fire for the Lord.

You both have blessed me tremendously. Thank you so much!!

Your love for your father certainly shows through. What a touching explanation of his life -- I am wiped out.

It's good that all of the management of funds takes longer than people expect, because emotions are so elevated afterward. Maybe family members will have the time to look into microfinance networks or other applications of the funds where they'll be reassured that good is done with them.
