I touch, I know a lot of people do. I do so while having sexual fantasies about a girl I like. I am worried that this is a sin. I feel that this is a natural desire, both the masturbation and the fantasies. Is this a sinful activity? Are sexual fantasies OK if they are about a person you like? If this is a sinful activity, how can I stop?

Masturbation is not a sin.

Now is where I have heard the most debate, on whether sexual fantasies are a sin or not. Some say that Christ's teachings on this topic, in original Greek, meant only on married women. Others say that all "lust" is a sin. I don't really know, to be honest. Just follow your convictions. If you feel convicted about fantasizing about this girl, I would urge you to stop. It is possible to touch without any sexual feelings attached to it(I did for two years when I first began). So don't think it will be boring or something. It won't. Hope that helped somewhat...

The actual biological function involved in masturbation is natural and not necessarily a sin.

However, if you are lusting (read: sexually yearning for someone other than your wife) then you are sinning. Besides, if you have to justify it, you know that it's most likely wrong.

The way i was taught was if you are thinking or looking at a girl for the purpose of lusting it is a sin. However it is not a sin to be attracted to a girl, its the way dudes are made. My advice would be the same as the other smart people here, if you have to justify your action or feel conviction that is generally a sign to stop

Good luck and God bless

I agree follow your convictions. I don't know where people get the idea that thinking sexually about a girl is wrong, i'm quite sure it never says so in the Bible. How would people form relationships if they didn't have sexually feelings for eachother? The problem only begins, in my opinion when the thoughts act out of accordance with God's will for example if it is particulary peverse, selfish or un-loving. Sexual thoughts aren't necassarily lust, definitions of lust I have found include illicit sexual desire or intense sexual desire. I don't see how sexual feeling for a girl are illicit or immoral. I would say as long as loving and serving God remains your main focus, and you don't let the thoughts become your 'master' you should be fine, just be very careful and test yourself against the word of God to make sure you remain in faith. Personally I find masturbation to be a gateway into sin, but everyone is different and everyone doesn't fall into sin in the same ways.

First Corinthians chapter 10, verses 23-26 say:
"All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify. Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor. Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience’ sake; FOR THE EARTH IS THE LORD’S, AND ALL IT CONTAINS."

Continue to read on and it talks more about how what you must be concerned about is your conscience, not your actions. For our actions make us sinners, and Jesus, by his death, has forgiven us for all sin, past, present, and future. The question is not whether it's permitted, but whether it makes you feel unclean. If you feel like you shouldn't be doing it, and it makes you guilty, then you probably shouldn't. Do whatever makes you feel at ease in the Lord.

Forgive the double post everyone. :sorry:

I read this after I had posted my response, so whoops. I agree fully. The Holy Spirit will let you know if you're doing something wrong, the guilt is what matters, we don't have a list of forbidden practices anymore, that's Old Covenant, now it's all about the relationship with Jesus, and how your actions affect that.

God bless you brothers!

The great majority of people touch...and for all we know, the great majority of people might not attain salvation. Just because other people partake in such a sinful act does not justify its immorality.

Masturbation is a sin, clear and simple. Whether you're fantasising about someone else is irrelevant at this point (though of course you are committing another sin: lust), since you are going against the nature of humanity. God created anything sexual related to be exclusively used for bonding and procreation. Masturbation gives none of those things, like a drug it gives you a quick shot of happiness and then leaves you feeling empty.

As for how could you stop...everyone is different, everyone has different levels of will power. All I can say is that if you truly love and believe in God, and follow the laws He gave us in all His mercy and love, then you'll have to do His will sooner or later.

There is nothing wrong with giving into natural desires.

Ah, but people usually touch due to the aggravating feeling of sexual frustration, which leads to worse things than just alleviating it through masturbation. It's especially hard for teens because they have reached sexual maturity, but morals say they can't have sex yet. Frustrating.
