  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hmmm....The thing about this subject is that if pursued for any amount of time it's content peters out into inane horseplay....But regardless, It is an interesting subject, please keep it on a serious note.
Yeah, I'd have to agree. It's one of those things that's difficult to keep a straight face about, though.

Killing kittens is for girls. Guys wax the javelin. British terminology is quite different.
Actually, I think he's referring to the phrase, 'Evertime you touch, God kills a kitten. Please, think of the kittens'. The female alternative is, 'Everytime a female masturbates, God gives the world a puppy. Please, think of the puppies'. Note that the former doesn't even need to state that it is referring to male masturbation; such is the internet :p
Note also that God:
1) Rewards with puppies
2) Punishes with kitten massacres
3) Likes female masturbation
4) Dislikes male masturbation
:p

I am trying to imagine how that is possible . . .

... I just had to make an example scenario

*guy is masturbating in his room which is located just at the end of a stairway*
*His girlfriend enters the room, sees him touch and goes into a shock slowly backing out of the room - Then falls down the stairs and breaks her neck*

Masturbation is evil, I say!

If there's nothing wrong with it, and it is entirely normal and healthy, then why would she be shocked?

Then why do so many of you oh so intellectually superior non-believers also attach so much shame to it? If it is so normal and healthy then why isn't it typical cocktail party conversation?
Clearly you haven't been to one of my cocktail parties.
Show me one 'oh so intellectually superior non-believer' who attaches shame to the act of masturbation. If you haven't noticed, all of the non-Christians on this thread have openly discussed masturbation without any hint of shame.
It is not usually discussed openly for the same reason we do not discuss pooping, or doing the washing up, or going to sleep: it is just one of those things, and noone cares enough to get into a full blown discussion over it.
That said, you really must come to one of my cocktail parties...

In the relatively anonymous setting of an internet forum, sure. But how many of them would be embarrassed to have the same conversation in person? I'd bet that most would have some level of discomfort about it. I know I did even before I became a Christian which was after at least a decade of being an adult.

As for the reason it's not discussed, sorry I don't buy that reason. It;s not even mentioned in casual conversation the way that some of those things are.

I think you are assuming that because you feel discomfort, then everyone must feel equally uncomfortable. I personally have no qualms with discussing masturbation.

Don't buy it if you want, i'm simply giving you my reason for not discussing masturbation at every available turn.

I agree, it's just one of those things that no-one really finds to be interesting conversation.

Well....having said that.....there are people who discuss ways of masturbating.

Because while it is a completely normal and healthy act, it's still sexual and society has attached some kind of taboo about the subject because of religious viewpoints influencing politics, society and our opinions. Also, it's not very exciting to talk about, there's a lot more interesting subjects that goes much better and smoothly in human interactions, it also depends on the sexual maturity of the person you're speaking to - I have several friends I can talk to about sexual acts about and they have no problem responding and find no shame in it, but I also have friends who aren't sexually mature and aren't ready to speak about it comfortably yet because of several independent factors such as age, friends, society, opinions and religious viewpoints.
