As tragic as the events in El Paso and Dayton were, we need to keep them in perspective. Drunk drivers kill one person on US highways every 50 minutes. In short, alcohol creates more than one El Paso a day on our nations highways. It's interesting to see people ignore the beams in the public health debate and focus on the specks, and this sort of singlemindedness can't help but call motives into question.

This is the "elephant" in the room so to speak. Discussions like this trample the feminist narrative underfoot.

So why doesn't the 2nd amendment allow me to have my own Tank? or Stinger Missile? or Nuke?

You can own a tank if you want.

A nuclear missile, unlike a firearm, is intended as a tool used to project force to foreign shores as a matter of foreign policy and so falls outside the original intent of the second amendment.

you are speaking without knowledge, unless you have had a child or spouse killed in a senseless manner.

While all who suffer loss have my sympathy, suffering such a loss does not qualify you as an expert on public policy. Remember, those who drafted the second amendment had just lived through the horrors of a war that dwarfed anything that happened yesterday.

... from watching the news you would think violence is getting worse. Hasn't been true for years,....
Agree. The data is clear. On the whole, and worldwide on average, violence is declining markedly.

For a number of reasons, the better angels of our nature are prevailing.

I'm not sure how that qualifies your complaints against your government or how our perspective for mass shootings should be to the tune of Que sera, sera. (just with some sort of doomsday lyrics) There's darkness in this world and our job is to spread the light as far and as wide as possible, not find the best seat to watch it go down. Charles Spurgeon is quoted saying "If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for." Take him or leave him, but that sort of passion is about intimately and desperately caring for the lost regardless of how lost they are.

This is the "elephant" in the room so to speak. Discussions like this trample the feminist narrative underfoot.

The elephant in the room is survival of the fittest. Our response to pain is not identical. Some self-destruct, harm others, harm themselves, quit, keep trying, or overcome.

Fatherless homes are one form of adversity. The next could be a serious illness or learning disability. How you handle the challenges is the difference. Some people have difficulty coping with life’s setbacks. Others never learned how to do so.

Three-fourths of our lives are spent outside of parental jurisdiction. If we’ve failed to address our lack or never sought help for negative experiences we are culpable. You can’t play the parent card forever. Well adjusted adults move beyond it and take responsibility for their decisions and mistakes.

I’m not dismissing the impact of fatherless homes. But it isn’t the lone hardship anyone faces. I could make a similar argument for poverty or put another difficulty in that position. The results remain the same. Some overcome unpleasant hardships and others don’t.

Oftentimes it isn’t what we’re facing that determines our end. It’s who we are and how we stand.

I'm not. I was just saying his analogy was poor. Honestly I wouldn't care at all about gun control if it weren't for the fact that it would make political revolution (if necessary), impossible.

But don't we already have gun control on some level?
Does that mean political revolution is already impossible?

How would an assault weapon give you an advantage in successfully pulling off a political revolution over a handgun when the government is rolling down your down your street with tanks and buzzing overhead with blackhawks?

Sorry... when it comes to poor reasons against gun control, you seem to have taken the cake with this one.

Again, I can't own a nuclear weapon, or even a surface to air anti aircraft missile to protect my family from government intrusion, yet the 2nd amendment is still very much intact.

Same would go for an AR.

Says who?
You think if New york city was taken over by islamic jihadists who launched a nuke on DC, that the US government wouldn't hit NYC with a nuke in retaliation?

its a brave new world friend.. original intent is a thing of the past.

If the 2nd amendment was intended to protect the populace from our government overreaching, shouldn't it allow the populace to bear armaments of EQUAL force to that which is held by the oppressive government?

And if we want to talk "original intent", then we d have to say the 2nd amendment is only for muskets.

What about a surface to air missile? rocket launcher? or other such "defensive" weaponry?
Why does me not being able to own and brandish those weapons freely not violate my 2nd amendment rights?

Trust me, a good guy with a Nuke would stop a mass shooter in his tracks every time.
Well you'd have to be able to carry and conceal it. No, mass murder was not the initial idea, just personal protection of family and property, our rights. I would agree with outlawing automatic rifles, semi-automatic weapons.
Checks and balances were installed in our Constitution to prohibit the government from gaining too much power. It's collapsing. When you have the Supreme Court legislating, they are over-stepping their powers as with Gay Marriage and Abortion.
The first step in creating a socialist/fascist country is to outlaw guns. Take away the guns from private citizens, then you can easily rule over them, force your hand, like in communist nations. Removing guns doesn't stop evil, it just allows evil to dominate on a larger scale and our freedoms will be lost.

QFT..

The world is getting demonstrably BETTER by every measurable metric.

It drives the dispensational futurists' bananas to grapple with such facts, for a progressively better world is antithetical to their theology, but, their "doom and gloom" time is rapidly running out, and they'll all die off eventually, and the betterment of the world under the dominion of the Church will continue, unstoppable, as prophesied. (Isaiah 9:7, Ephesians 3:20-21, Matthew 16:18)

Rest assured the USof A will NEVER outlaw all Guns, or take all guns away from private citizens.

We may continue to outlaw citizens from owning surface to air missiles tho, so yeah... socialism is clearly behind that...

The facts show otherwise. Dozens and dozens of advanced prosperous countries have existed for decades with no guns and no tyranny.

"How would an assault rifle give you an advantage over a handgun?" Have you ever even shot a gun? Tanks can be disarmed with homemade explosives, people on the other hand, are a lot easier to take down if you have range, which handguns do not give.

Guerilla warfare is a thing.

I just saw in the movies where a cowboy, when he shot another guy with a pistol, he shot it from behind his back with one hand, and he was deadly accurate from about 20 yards. I assume that mirrors reality? I mean it's Hollywood, after all.

Simply because there are countless other horrors in this world that should cause our hearts to break, it does not follow that we should therefore not be deeply grieved by these senseless mass shootings. As children of a loving God, we are to be loving as He is loving. I think, if we are not deeply moved by these recent acts of violence in our world, something is amiss in our hearts....

So you believe and assert that the difference between a successful political revolution and an unsuccessful one relies on whether of not the populace has assault rifles?

Why not a Bazooka? or anti- tank mortar?
or nerve gas? Why not make those legal?

Surely its a lot easier to take down a group invading government people coming down your street with a well placed canister of nerve agent than an assault rifle, yes?

I mean, if you are hanging you hat on "we must have all the tools necessary to successfully pull off a revolution" then why stop at AR's?, because an AR will NOT stop THIS:

In terms of "theology" what God (Theos) are you referring to? Is it the God of war? in what view of the world are mass shootings considered acceptable?

Since bloodshed pollutes the land, I'm not entirely sure why it shouldn't be a big deal?

No comment on puppet government figures.

Flame throwers, granade launchers and tanks can all be legally owned in some states, as well as rocket launchers if I'm not mistaken. And yes I think they should all be legal.

As for nerve gas, that is a stretch and you know it. Nerve Gas is banned globally for being a cruel method of killing. Not on the same level as other weapons necessary for military defense.
