Mass. Multiplayer online gamers in here

I have a question, is it normal to have a lot of problems to log into the different areas? I have a demo version of Planet Side and it won't let me log into any of the different areas. It tries to connect, then boots me off and makes me reconnect over and over again with the same results. Is it supposed to be like that, or am I doing something wrong?

You have a demo version? Hmmm did you download it off the internet or did you rip it? Also do you have any firewalls?

I downloaded it from gamespy.com. It's a full 7 day demo. I do have some seemingly over protective firewall, though. Maybe that would cause it?

I have a serious problem with gamespy-- I think its because of firewalls- I turned off the one that comes with xp- but its still pretty bad----- I don't think I have any firewalls other than that- though. Luckily- I don't have to use gamespy that much though. Only for total annihilation-- which I can't play until I find the disk :p

Well sometimes a firewall (like mine) will restrict a program (like a game) from connecting with the internet. What I do is turn it off and that works. But if you think thats unsafe then don't. Other than that I can't think of anything else. :)

I can, if your at a school, like in dorm, you could be toast. Schools hate online gaming 'cause it cuts into their bandwidth (like they need any to download a research paper, all text and nothing a dial-up couldn't handle) but anyways, school connections (or even occasionally residential connections that route through a college) often shaft games trying to connect and are starting to aquire anti-kazaa('n kazaa style) software that also spills over into your innocent games attempt to connect sometimes. If you aren't at school, this doesn't really apply though.

To disable the firewall for XP:

1) Click Start
2) My Network Places
3) View Network Connections (in the network tasks bar at the far left)
4) Right click the internet connection
5) Click properties
6) Advanced
7) Clear the ticky box
8) You may be asked to restart the PC...if not just do it anyway to prevent any windows hiccups...

All done :) ...Although I can't see this helping a massive amount as the XP firewall is tripe even at its best, but you never know, depends on what's at the other end ;) btw...if that doesn't work see if you can configure planetside to connect through either port 80 or port 8080...

Uni

Thanks! But when I found it, it was already unclicked. How do you do that port thing?

I'm so glad most patches for games/etc... can be found on company sites. If I had to download every game patch from fileplanet I think I'd go nuts.

Agreed, the wait times are stupid and the signup is really annoying! Problem is though, 3rd-party mods etc. for games can only be d/led from FP sometimes...
