Yes, I don't think that people were going to say, hey, there go's God's only Son. I think the probably thought Jesus was Joseph's son, not God's. Just because THEY called him that, doesn't make him that. If GOD called him that, then we can talk.Matthew:13:55 asks " Isn't he the carpenters son?" I'm not sure but where I come from this insinuates that people thought of him as Josephs son. He didn't rebuke them on this point so it must have some validity.
But it's in the bible. What other purpose does it hold but to either be a truth (bible is full of truth, is it not?) or it is something that Jesus wanted to clear up. For example, just look at Luke 11: 27-28. 27- When Jesus had said this, a woman spoke up from the crowd and said to him" How happy is the woman that bore you and nursed you!"28- But Jesus answered, "Rather, how happy are those who hear the word of God and obey it!" The famous line protestants quote to show that Mary held no higher esteem than any other. Why the difference in one verse you have people extolling Mary and then Jesus supposedly rebukes them, but in another passage he's called Josephs son and no rebuttal at all? You can't have it both ways.Yes, I don't think that people were going to say, hey, there go's God's only Son. I think the probably thought Jesus was Joseph's son, not God's. Psalm 69:8
8I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.
Galatians 1:19
19But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.
John 7:5
5For neither did his brethren believe in him.
Even as a child Jesus knew that God was His Father, but He still submitted His obedience to Joseph as His legal father, or step dad if you will....
I wouldn't call him a step dad, as there wasn't anything like it back then. He was quite literally Jesus' adoptive father, which, like today, is a good as biological paternity (legally speaking).
There is only one person called the son of Mary in Scripture.
Because the Bible says to worship God in TRUTH. I do not want to fight you, nor prove I am right, and you are wrong. I fear for your souls, and don't want to be held accountable for anyone that God has aloud me the oppurtunity to help.

I have given three verses that say Jesus had brothers. So I don't need to find any verse that says Mary was so in so's mother.
None of the James in the New Testament had Joseph as a father. You need to study scripture and you will see that all of the James mentioned also have the names of thier fathers mentioned. Zebedee was one.So what, how are you going to throw away the three verse that I gave you that say Jesus had brothers? If he had brothers, then he had brothers. Mary is Jesus ONLY mother, therefor, if he had brothers, then where do you think they came from? Out of thine air?
I can see where BigChris is coming from here, but, I think he is nitpicking. To some, it may be a huge deal, but to me, Jesus was the focus and what saves us.
I can't prove it one way or another, and I don't even want to. No offense to either side, but its a minor issue in salvation.
To be fair - While the bible never explicitely says Mary stayed a virgin... IT also never explicitely says she had other children. Like it or not Chris - the words used could be interpreted any number of ways. There's no cut and dry answer here except for those who trust their tradition. For the rest of us it's only speculation.

SO....let me get this...your half brothers/sisters AREN'T really your bro/sis??? because you have different parantage??? UM...there is ALOT wrong with that line of thinking. SO what..I have half siblings too..BUT in NO way do I say they aren't really my siblings cause we have different parents... <edited>I have a brother, and a sister. Neither one of us have the same biological mother, in fact only my sister was born of her, and my brother and I have different mothers (and fathers). Citing brothers means nothing, especially in light of OT prophecy and the witness of the early Church.
And you have yet to answer if and why my soul is in danger for my belief.
