  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

DC needs to put the person who runs their animations in charge of their movies.
DC has never had anyone like Stan Lee to oversee all of that.

How old is he, like 200? I am in my 60s and he was already well established when I was a kid...

I'm really not all that interested in the superhero genre with the exception of Batman, which ends up making me DC. I adore Batman villians in particular, I love the darkness they have about them and how even the most cartoonish of the villians ends up being a reflection of true psychological issues inherent in real serial killers, criminals, etc.

I used to love the Adam West Batman, then loved Tim Burton's movies. Even Joel Schumacher's, though admittedly terrible, were the kind of campiness I could get behind. I watched the cartoons, I very lightly dabble in the comics, love the video games, and will listen to Mark Hammel do Joker in any platform. Christopher Nolan's movies changed the superhero genre forever (in that everyone tried and failed to copy after that) and are some of my very favorite movies. The new Justice League and Batman V Superman stuff is garbage, but at least Suicide Squad went back to the Joel Schumacher camp that I loved.

Yeah... So I basically just love the Batman universe. I also dress as Wonder Woman often, which places me a little more firmly in DC soil.

Wonder Woman.., which places me a little more firmly in DC soil.

I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I liked the Lynda Carter' Wonder Woman tv series a lot.
I preferred the seasons set in the 7os, over the first/canonical season set in WW2..

I really liked both those shows at the time they aired.

Going back and watching them now is almost painful.

Why (?).. because they're not dark & graphic like contemporary comic book fare (?)
They were just designed to be light hearted entertainment, no (?)

No - I prefer the light-hearted to the dark and brooding contemporary versions.

What is painful is typical of all tv shows of that era - hokey acting, poor writing and goofy camera work.

To be sure, Marvel Comics under Stan Lee was doing something 'way before its time in connecting personally with fans rather than just being names on the masthead.

But DC animation is pretty well planned and executed, while their movies have generally been lost (also, Lost).

Mom of boys here, and I am required to watch all Marvel and DC movies the first week they come out. I like them both. My favorites of the current movies are Wonder Woman and Black Panther, but I've enjoyed them all. I didn't really like the Spiderman movies of a fews years back, but I think that was because I didn't like the casting.

DC needs to put the person who runs their animations in charge of their movies.

Disney needs to do the same with Star Wars.

Dave F is a genius who should just be given free reign of “Star Wars.”

Let's see. I guess my favorite characters in the Marvel movies (as opposed to just the comic books) are:

Marvel - Ant-man, Dr. Strange, and Ghost Rider

DC - Superman and Wond......... [Although, I have to say that the new Shazam movie trailer looks pretty good to me.]

When I bought comics as a kid back in the 70s and 80s, my favorites were:

Hulk and the X-men

Meh - I like the Marvel movies - but there's a huge side of me that thinks that the DC movies are unfairly judged.

Don't get me wrong - Batman v. Superman was a piece of garbage...lol But I liked Man of Steel. I liked Wonder Woman. Justice League was meh. Really have no desire to see the Aqua Man movie (always thought that Aqua Man was the stupidest character ever). Suicide Squad was pretty good too, IMHO, at least not deserving of the beating it took.

But I also can't get away from the fact that my FAVORITE superhero movies are the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. Those, combined with Man of Steel, make for a far more interesting franchise to me than what Marvel has to offer.

The problem with Man of Steel is that they essentially introduced a substantially different character than the Superman everyone knows without really fleshing out that different character.

The situation was different from introducing a wholly new character or a character most of the movie audience would be unfamiliar with. The entire world is totally familiar with one kind of Superman, and the movie didn't do a good job of rolling back what the audience already thought it knew.

Yeah - I totally get that. But ya know, I felt that George Reeves, Christopher Reeves and then Brandon Routh has paid enough homage to that vision of Superman (heck the Brandon Routh version was barely distinguishable at all in tone from the Reeves movies - to the point where they copied the 80's text effects in the credits sequence).

I thought making Superman more of a conflicted character was a welcome change. Last thing I needed to see was another variation of the same tired theme. Ya know?
