• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Married and struggling with bisexuality

Hi. I'm new to the forum and coming here because I need help. I'm a married man. Happily married and have been for almost 20 years. But for the last 5 years I have struggled with a temptation towards bisexuality. I have found myself more and more tempted to engage in bisexual affairs and encounters. To this point I have not done anything, but I know that if I don't change soon, it is only a matter of time before I do.

Any help would be appreciated, especially from anyone who has dealt with this too.

You're not alone, brother.
Remember, temptation isn't a sin... but if you dwell on it and let it become overwhelming, it is harder to resist.
I'd recommend making yourself a list of distractions, things you can do when you start to think about men, which will 'take your mind off it'.
And don't put yourself in the way of temptation. If you are home with your wife, or out with a group of friends it's hard to engage in any kind of homosexual relationship - if you are in a bar alone it is easier. Try to make the decision before you feel tempted, it's easier then!

You are in my prayers

Accepting the inevitability is a wrong position to be coming from. You are to focus on being the husband of your wife and consider how best to do that, not on allowing a pattern of thought to take root and develop.
