  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Let's share touching, funny, happy and thought provoking stories with each other about our marriages.

I'm writing this in response to another thread. Not may people will read this because most people have the idea of being happily married is boring. Well, it's not!

We are not happy every moment of every day. We have struggles and through them we learn and love each other more. Wow, have we ever come a long way!!! I am blessed to have such a caring, sensitive, warm , hard working, babe-alicious husband that loves me! With all my shortcomings he supports me and helps me to see my mistakes and shows me when I'm good at something.

I could go on and on but I won't.

Let's share touching, funny, happy and thought provoking stories with each other about our marriages. I tell you one in a bit. Talk to you soon and I look forward to hearing about your wonderful spouses.

One of the favorite things that my spouse and I do together is cooking. We try and cook together at least two or three times a week, trying out new recipies. Tonight we are making bolenaise sauce for fresh pasta. This takes about two and a half hours as we chop, prepare and stir, and slightly altering the recipie from the time before.

But what it really does is give us time to just be with each other and talk. Neither of us are exhausted; the food smells good, we nibble as we go and we have time to tell each other what we are thinking about.

We love to cook together, too. We try to make something new every weekend. Last weekend we made lasagna (noodles and all) and cheesecake. This weekend we have a dinner with our Sunday School class after church and I think we'll try a new dessert.

I am truly happy and I love my husband more than anything. We've been married for almost 7 years.

He's such a wonderful father, and it just melts my heart when I see him letting our girls dress him up or fix his hair with bows...or when he's outside teaching Emily to play baseball...or crawling around on his hands and knees with Eden on his back, making elephant noises and swinging his arm around like a trunk.

And he's a wonderful husband. He's the smartest, most hard-working man I know. He devotes himself entirely to making our lives secure and happy. The way that he manages our money, allowing us to make plans for the future...that doesn't sound romantic, but it's such a relief to know that WE are his top priority...as opposed to spending the weekends hanging out with his buddies, or going to bars and partying.

He's not really the "romantic" type, but he always manages to surprise me with something on my birthday. 2 years ago, he surprise me with a beautiful new aquarium and cabinet and pretty new fish. He set it all up while I was at work. I LOVE goldfish. And last year, he planned a day for us in Nashville...we went to see the dinosaur exhibit (with our kids, of course), then we went to the Rainforest Cafe for lunch, then over to the Opryland Hotel to walk around the indoor gardens and waterfalls for the rest of the afternoon. It was such a wonderful day. He picked out all the things he knew I'd want to do the most.

Honestly, there are just too many wonderful little things about him to list. I'm blessed.

Love, Heather

That is nice to hear Heather.

My husband has recently retired as a school principal and is looking for another career to keep him gainfully employed. We suddenly realised that he had been busy with his career, I had been busy bringing up the kids, caring for our son who has Down's Syndrome and latterly with my digital art, writing and poetry, but there is nothing that we do as a couple! This came as a bit of a shock, we don't share the same taste in music or even many TV programmes. He is an atheist, I am a liberal Christian! We decided that we hopefully have a few years in front of us and we had better remedy the situation immediately. We are going to write a book about our haunted house and the weird stuff that happens here, that is quite a good way to start and hopefully other books will follow!

Okay, heres a story...

When our daughters were really little, my husband and I were playing with water squirt guns with them and my husband decided that a squirt gun did not hold enough water for him, so he went and got a large empty plastic jug of some sort and filled it full...I was unaware and was sneaking back into the house to find him and he met me at the door and threw every bit of that water in my face...it went down my nose and throat and I almost drowned. I forgave him of course, but the funny part is when that story is talked about to this day ( about 12 years later ) his face gets red and he still appologizes for it. I tell him that he never knows when I may decide to take out my revenge...;) .

Our favorite thing to do is bicycle. We live in Wisconsin where there are hundreds of trails ranging from 5 miles to over a hundred miles. I dont know what it is about cycling, having fun? the beautiful scenery? talking the whole time? a beautiful sunny day? Maybe it's a combination of all of the above, but right from the first time we bought our bikes, our time riding has had a way of causing us to bond in a way that nothing else does. And for me, it's a tremendous stress reliever which always ends up making my honey one happy man

Tim and I have some great tickle battles on Saturday morning. :)

To this day he still swears that Jeminy Cricket was a grasshopper. What a cutie! :)

To list everything that makes me smile each and every day would fill a library and then some. He's just the sweetest most fantastic guy I've ever known, and I'm head over heels in love with him.

Seriously, we don't often spend much couple time. We are both opposites and interested in such opposite things. He lives on his computer, and I am always out and about. We do manage to somehow get along together and we are really quite happy. He is a good Dad and usually a caring husband. He is quite playful and always trying to make jokes. He is quite shy around anyone else though.

Our favourite thing to do together, is rent a DVD or video and just blob out on the lounge on a Saturday night. He makes a cheese platter or we just eat a packet of chips or something. We just cuddle up on the lounge and just hang out together.

When I think about how different our personalities are, it amazes me that God has put us together and we manage to make it work. Purely by the grace of God I would say, but here we are, about to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary (14th April)

I would say that the best thing about my husband is that he is my best friend. He is the best friend I have ever had, and I am so excited about us getting to spend the rest of our lives, and grow old together.

It is lovely to see this thread. Of course Marriage should be a happy relationship!

I love being with my beloved... we have known eachother now for 19 years and been married for 15 years and I have never seen him loose his temper! After having a violent and very angry dad it is wonderful to be in such a happy and relaxed relationship now for all these years!

If my hubbie is interested in something I will take an interest too, as much as I can... just as I do with the kids! We love to go places together and go for walks and visit cities. To watch films and play console games and so on. If my family are happy I am happy. :)

My husband and I have been married for almost 25 years. (Aug) He's a wonderful man and I'm blessed to have him. I think his sense of humor is the best. I tend to be a sober, cynical person and he's light, funny and easy going. God knew what he was doing when he put us together. :)

We love to do yard work together or to make tacos together. years ago, we used to play computer games together before they became too advanced for me. We played the games where you had to type in the instructions. He'd tell me what to type and I'd type it in because I could spell. We'd laugh so much.

I tell my girls that marriage can be uphill the first ten years, but after that it's so sweet and comfortable. We can read each others minds so much of the time and trust each other.

Anyway, this is a refreshing thread.

Your post are all touching and greatly encouraging! I am happy to be married. I thought it would never happen, that no man could love me enough to make that kind of a commitment. God has blessed me. I have a husband who is sensitive, loving and walks with God. We have a beautiful baby boy. I love him more evry day. If that is possible. We grow together and love each other. We have learned to be more respectful of each other and through struggles I know I can leave him in Gods hands. I am thankful.

My hubby is a big guy (6'3" 200+pounds), most people see him as a cool swave kind of guy, but he's really just all marshmellow inside:) (shhhhh, he'd blush if he knew I wrote that, probably thinking I'm referring to that little tummy of his LOL). He is really such a teddy bear. I'm amazed by how vulnerable this big cool guy is. And the truth is, no one else knows that about him but me:) . And I'm 5'2" close to 100 pounds less than he is in weight, well, maybe 80 pounds less- and I'm really the boss in the family;)

LOL, my hubby will fight with you to the end that blue is really purple, and purple is really blue. And the funny thing about him is the way he pronounces his words and some funny things he says sometimes- probably due to his parents influence who are small town farm folk LOL (my mother in law was asking me where the "stockings" were when looking around for my sons socks. I thought she was talkig about pantyhose, I was pretty confused). Anyways, I've had to teach him how to say words with to LL's like "tortilla", "quesadillas" He would literally pronounce them as they are spelled rather than with they silent L's. And he was in his late twenties when we got married. Honestly, this used to annoy the heck of me and still does from time to time because of the sterotype I connect with it- and being a city girl myself- their language is so lazy- ugggg. Now it makes me laugh and even smile sometimes.

My husband, Silent Enigma, is the best. We will have our 8 yr. anniversary this year, Lord willing.
I enjoy watching him play with our three kids. I appreciate the fact that he is a family man, and does not have to go hang out with the guys.
He delivered one of our children himself, is a great worker, was there for me through a difficult miscarriage and our baby's skull surgery.
I enjoy going for walks at state parks with him. We also go on-line together, and I love watching him play video games. i enjoy helping him ocassionally in his lawn maintenance profession or with his snow removal jobs. He loves me!!!!
One of my fave things about him is that he avoids porn like the plague, and will turn and look at me instead of improperly clothed women. He is very, very faithful.
He is my super fave person. He is my best gift from God. I also like the fact that he is not wimpy and is very controlling. My selfish flesh does not like that while it is happenig, but afterwards I feel like he is sooo sexy. My knight in shinig armour....
He is the best husband I could possibly have. I am so thankful God made him and gave him to me!!

Yesterday my husband washed all the windows in our home and the screen covers too. This has made me really happy. Today I look out over the yard through clean windows as the sunlight pours in. I see his hard work and care. This is one way he shows me that he loves me.
It makes me happy when there is evidence of a shared sense of responsibility for our home and our lives.
