In the Marriage forum I responded to a wedding-planning thread by saying that the church (community of believers, body of Christ, etc.) has a role to play in a Christian marriage ceremony. In my gut instinct I know this is because you can't be a Christian just by yourself, just you and Jesus, you need to be part of the body of Christ as well. And I know this is coming from my Anabaptist theology somewhere.
Anyway, it's kind of late and I'm having trouble articulating my position, and I was hoping maybe some of you could point to some scripture or other resources to help me explain myself in that other thread. I really think it's important for all Christians to realize the role that the church plays (or ought to play/needs to play) in our faith and in our rites of passage and in covenants we make before God, such as marriage.
