In the Marriage forum I responded to a wedding-planning thread by saying that the church (community of believers, body of Christ, etc.) has a role to play in a Christian marriage ceremony. In my gut instinct I know this is because you can't be a Christian just by yourself, just you and Jesus, you need to be part of the body of Christ as well. And I know this is coming from my Anabaptist theology somewhere.

Anyway, it's kind of late and I'm having trouble articulating my position, and I was hoping maybe some of you could point to some scripture or other resources to help me explain myself in that other thread. I really think it's important for all Christians to realize the role that the church plays (or ought to play/needs to play) in our faith and in our rites of passage and in covenants we make before God, such as marriage.

"ought to play" is key, as none of the churches anywhere(except simple martyrs) that I have ever heard of do ,
however,
the martyrs in Yahshua
recognize from the Book that the Creator hates divorce (He does not ever try to make the divorced comfortable nor to feel as if it was okay)
just as the Creator hates bigotry, a proud and haughty look, perverts and liars and murderers....

i.e. the Creator does not take lightly the sins and abominations of men nor of those who claim authority

this is clear through all of the Book of Scripture,
but
it will not help to try and explain yourself to anyone on a forum on the internet - if they want to know the truth and obey the Creator He Himself Promises to Teach them...
if they don't want to know the truth, or just don't want to obey parts of it,
then they will never know anything according to the Master's Word.
