Others may be more help if they've attended these. I have not, but I got to know one of the (many) trainers for Family Life's Weekend to Remember retreats when we were searching for a senior pastor. He and I had quite a few conversations about their retreats, and help and restoration are well within thier intended purpose. You can easily find them in a google search as they have many events nationwide.

I don't have any personal experience with this organization, but can pass along their site for you and your ex to look over. They have the seminar on DVD and I also saw that they offer couseling via Skype, for those unable to attend in person.

It's great that both of you are willing.....am I understanding you correctly? IMO....that is the one main ingredient that will move things forward.

My wife and I attended a couple of these several years ago. I thought they had some good information and really explained what a Biblical marriage is all about.

With attitudes like that, I can almost promise you a restored marriage. May you both continue to rely on God and His perfect path.

I thought of another resource. This Christian psychologist has phone counseling and books along with seminars...

Does anyone have any experience/success with a marriage retreat geared towards Christians? My ex-wife and I are looking for somewhere to go for help and restoration.

My husband and I went to a Weekend to Remember back in February. It was awesome. The couples that lead it were very transparent about their marriages and how different strains affected their marriages and how they worked them out. One couple was on the brink of divorce due to an affair and the restored their marriage. Now they teach. I think all the weekends are set up with two couples. They are pretty in depth weekends.

If you get in with a group (the lady taking our reservation GAVE me a code to use as we weren't with a group :) ) it's half price per person (about $80) but IMO, it's worth it even full price. from the link you can see the weekend set up. I highly recommend it.

I've also heard good things about marriage encounter, which is run by Assemblies of God.

Retrouvaille is an excellent program. Friends have gone through it with great success. I'm still too new to post a link, but do google it. I know they offer their follow-up support by Skype if it's not possible to attend the follow up sessions due to distance, etc.

I think they would be fun and helpful for those in good to fairly good marriages. But don't expect it to change deep issues.

We went to two of them and I found them sad because my wife's abhorrence to sex/affection seemed so sadly unchangeable. It was like peering over into the Promised Land only to be reminded you're all alone again.

I don't have any recommendations but I did want to offer you some encouragement. My best friend and her husband divorced and remarried. They refer to the divorce as that "hiatus" and they are happy, strong and committed. Their faith is stronger and they've gone on to have two more children.

This might sound unconventional, but it might be worth checking out. DivorceCare is actually geared towards trying to restore marriages, if possible, and help couples work towards reconciliation. It's not just a divorce support recovery group.
