Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

In the UK it is the building that needs to be registered as far as I am aware. I got married in a Baptist church that we 'borrowed' there needed to be a registrar there or appointed person, but they did not have to do the actual ceremony - they were there to ensure all the legal words were included in the ceremony and to officiate at the signing of the register.

Someone can be ordained w/o being an actual minister. The guy who performed our wedding is not an actual minister.

How do you manage that? I thought that once you were ordained, you were some kind of minister, no matter how obscure. Deacons minister in some way, as do elders.

The laws are different in every country, and they're different in every state in the US. If you were in America, I'd suggest going to your county recorder's office and asking them... but since you're a Brit, I have no idea what to tell you. :D

The bible doesn't say. Unfortunately, this is one of those things the State puts their 2 cents in on. You have to be "registered" with the State to be eligable to perform State approved marriages. Here in the US anyway.

If you are just going for a wedding ordained by God then anyone you wish should be fine. God married Adam and Eve, how great would that be????

Hi

Can anyone tell me whether or not as a Christian it would be ok to get married by a Christian friend as opposed to a minister? Can ordinary people get the neccesary license to marry people?

Thanks
according to the law of a land , you need some one to sign the certificate : minister , notary , justice of the peace ... and 2 witnesses ...

problem with being married by friend v's pastor is the long term oversight and accountablility .... prayers , discipline , instruction ... should get , things that tweak the relationship

as long as you are born again [ God is in the forefront of your relationship ]walk as one , honor each other , and worship in church on a regular basis ... should not be a biggie

wife and I were married by a justice of the peace in henderson , kentucky who looked like boss hog on the dukes of hazard
