  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Supreme Court to Decide Mandatory ID Case

WASHINGTON - Do you have to tell the police your name? Depending on how the Supreme Court rules, the answer could be the difference between arrest and freedom.

The justices heard arguments Monday in a first-of-its kind case that asks whether people can be punished for refusing to identify themselves.

The court took up the appeal of a Nevada cattle rancher who was arrested after he told a deputy that he had done nothing wrong and didn't have to reveal his name or show an ID during an encounter on a rural road four years ago.

Larry "Dudley" Hiibel, 59, was prosecuted, based on his silence, and finds himself at the center of a major privacy rights battle.

"I would do it all over again," Hiibel, dressed in cowboy hat, boots and a bolo tie, said outside the court. "That's one of our fundamental rights as American citizens, to remain silent."

The case will clarify police powers in the post-Sept. 11 era, determining if officials can demand to see identification whenever they deem it necessary.

Nevada senior deputy attorney general Conrad Hafen told justices that "identifying yourself is a neutral act" that helps police in their investigations and doesn't — by itself — incriminate anyone.

But if that is allowed, several justices asked, what will be next? A fingerprint? Telephone number? E-mail address? What about a national identification card?

well duh! this will pave the way for the mark of the beast. The rancher will lose the case. Do they think we are all naive not to know the whole diabolic plan has been planned ahead of time?

16 And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead,
17 and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the Beast or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the Beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six (666). (Revelation 13:16-18

An officer, called to the scene because of a complaint about arguing between Hiibel and his daughter in the truck, asked Hiibel 11 times for his identification or his name.
So there was a reason. This was not just a case of random ID checking.

Justice Antonin Scalia (news - web sites), however, expressed doubts. He said officers faced with suspicious people need authority to get the facts.

"I cannot imagine any responsible citizen would have objected to giving the name," Scalia said.
Exactly.
Even if there were a national ID card, unless they staple the thing to your forehead or hand........well, fill the blanks. sheeeesh. M

What she said.

Though I fail to see the relation between that article and those peieces of scripture.

He believes a national ID card could only be a precussor to some kind of tatoo or chip placed in the skin, that would identify you to anyone who saw the tatoo or had equipment to read the chip. Also that any said ID would be manditory if one wished to take part in any commerse. Which by definition of the verse would be the mark of the beast. At least thats we he thinks a national ID card could mean (i think).

Ah, yes, but that would fulfill the prophecies about the endtimes, so we can't let that happen! It'd be letting Satan win!

In all seriousness - who cares? I'm not a criminal and I don't have any secrets to keep, so I could care less if the governement knows about my personal life. But that's just me.

A chip would eliminate much street crime, ID theft, and tax evasion. Eliminate the need for cash money or credit cards.

.. Err.. you're joking right? I doubt they would make that huge jump from a card to a chip under the skin. And besides, what if it was on your left hand? Would it still be 'the mark of the beast', even though the bible clearly says it goes on the right hand or forehead?

Ikaria,
Um, I don't see anything to get worried about

Read Revelation chapter 13 then please reconsider. Bankers and big business, along with the government have tossed the idea of a microchip implant around for years. For centuries everything was done by cash & barter only. Now in the past 40 or so years societies have gotten into electronic banking. It wasn't too widespread until the 80's and 90's when it really took off.
When I was a kid there were no ATM machines, or electronic scanners in the supermarkets or department stores. Now they are everywhere you turn. They even have self scan isles in some stores that don't even require a cashier to check you out. It would only be a small step now to adapt the technology already in place to scan a microchip under your skin, just like they scan bar codes or the magnetic strip on your credit card.
When the world does finally change over to a cashless society, you will be required to pledge your allegience to the Antichrists government. If you refuse this you will not be able to buy or sell. Revelation 12 talks about fleeing to the wilderness where the earth helps the woman and her offspring. Rev 12 has 3 meanings: It refers to Mary and Jesus, Israel, and the Church. today we who are Christians are the "offspring" because Christ is in us.
This IS something to indeed be concerned about.

How does a cash-less society = Anti-christs goverment? I fail to see the connection. Granted, both will have to have a cetain thing to buy/sell, but just because they did 'chip implants' in the Left Behind series doesn't mean its really going to be that way. The bible just says that there will be a MARK. Normall marks are visable for everyone to see. How will a chip be visable for everyone to see?

Why? If you're so sure you will be raptured before the Tribulation then you should have nothing to worry about.

Not to mention, a micro chip embedded in the skin is not the mark of the beast. Even if it is, wouldn't you guys rather expedite Christ's return instead of fighting it? Why do so many Christians say "Lord, please come quickly" and then get all up in arms every time there is a freak natural disaster or there are rumors about micro chips and so forth? If you want Jesus to return so soon shouldn't news like this make you happy?
