Yeah last I checked Semite is a race, Jews aren't exclusive to being Semites but for some reason everyone seems to believe they mean the same thing nowadays. The bar code on most books has three divider lines that equate to the number 6 - thats been around for a good while - why isn't that considered the "mark of the beast"? But isn't the number of the beast supposed to be six hundred and three score and six, not just three 6's in a date or a time stamp, or bar code? From reading the Passages on the "mark," my impression is that the mark of the beast is connected to worshiping the beast. In other words, receiving the mark is something you must be willing to give your consent to by giving your allegiance to the Beast, possibly under the threat of persecution, not being able to buy or sell, and possibly death.

The beast appears to prohibit and persecute all other religions, and demands that all put their faith in the Beast and his Image - worshiping him only. In this way, the Beast will squash all those who oppose him or will give him trouble.

If you agree to give your allegiance to the beast, then you receive the "mark" so you will not be persecuted, and you will be able to buy and sell. I believe this is the case because God would not condemn a faithful Christian who received the "mark" without his knowledge or knowing that the Beast wants his allegiance.
