Name: Mark Gerund
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Hair: Black
Eyes: Blue
Bio: Mark is an only child, and his father, a widower. His father is one
of the bio program engineers that are working on the Romulus program. He dosent
really get to see his father too often, in fact. He hasent seen him for about
a month even though he lives in the primary lab. All he has to contact his father
is the e-mails he gets from him. Since he's not permitted to leave the station,
He spends his time studying, exercising at the rec center. And he is sometimes
permitted to talk and spend time with some of the experiments.
He disliked how some of them were treated. But there is nothing he can do.
He finds most of them very interesting, and he likes them. But out of all of them
he likes the most unresponsive the most. It is Specie 1034952, a little lizard
like creature that is kept in containment with a bio-gel to keep it alive.
Even though it was a failed experiment. He liked Specie 1034952, he disliked
calling "him" that but he could never think of a name that fit.
He spends most of his free time standing there watching it. It never moves,
not even the smallest twitter. Yet he watches it like he is entranced. There
is something about that he cant explain.
And so his story begins...
Mark walked down corridoor b12. He brushed some of his hair out of his eyes.
He had allways liked it slightly long. He made a left and at the end of the hall
was the door to Specie 1034952's containment area. His foot steps made a slightly
spooky echo in the empty hall.
He began going through the events of the day. He had finished his homework in
record time. And at the fenceing area in the gym he had come so close to besting
his instructor, but once again he got to cocky and he was hastily disarmed.
He had resently been wondering is that was part of his tactic.
He reached the first door. He stopped and pulled out his I.D. card and swiped it.
He counted for three seconds and pushed the tab button. It gave three beeps as it retreated
into the wall.
There on on a slightly raised platform was Specie 1034952, around it was the guard rail,
and several monetoring computors that the capsule was connected too. It was in a slightly curled position as
it always was. He stepped in, and the door shut briskly behind him. He never knew why he enjoyed the
company of the Romulites so much. It may be that they were what filled the void that left the hole
in him. The void that was caused by the death of his mother, and the absence of his father.
He took his normal stance that he used when watching it. He leaned up against the rail and crossed his
legs. He stared intently at it. As his thoughts drifted off he remembered the dream he had that last night.
It was very vague, his vision was blurred, but he thought he was flying. Clouds appeared to flying by
like little wisp's of smoke. It was night and he was riding on something. It was just all to vague.
He played with the necklace his grandfather had given him for his thirteenth birthday just before
he disapeared. He laughed bitterly to himself, His family had a tendency to not be there.
But his grandfather had always been a little enigmatic. When he asked him about it, he had just said
that it had been in the family for generations. When he asked how long, the reply was "long enough".
He watched the tank, bubbles squeezed their way through the life-supporting gel. He stared intently at
the little life form in it. He wished there was something he could do. A couple off days ago he had
eaves dropped on one of the chief Science directors conversation. He still remembers it crystal clear.
"Docter I dont care how much this specimen off the-" THe science director lowered his voice and all
Mark could hear was "Project" -"Costed us, I am only concerned about production. The specimen 1034952
will be terminated if their is no progress within the week" ...
He slowly raised his hand to touch the glass. He would not let this one go if he could, He would'nt let
this one die. He wouldnt!
Out of the corner of his eye he cought movement. His heart jumped and adreneline surged through his body.
It had moved! He stood there in awe untill an alarm went off. "Of course! the monitor. He thought.
He cursed with the relization that they would take it anyway. It would be taken to the higher access
area's. He shoudered with the thought of what they would do to it.
He would'nt let that happen. Instinc then took over and he ran to the controls. He used his card,
And punched in some numbers. He had to get it out. The top of the capsule began to open slowly.
He ran to the top platform, his beating madly in his chest. They would be there any moment.
He felt slight relief when the top was fully opened. He reached in and felt the gel. He hoped it would be
safe. It had a kind of tingling feeling to it. He froze when a hand grabbed his shoulder. He thrashed
about trying to get away. He did, but right into the gel. The small tingling that it gave his hand
became a searing pain. He rolled and thrashed about inside it. He felt a jolt of electricity and
the last thing he saw were two guards pulling him out. He then blacked out.
He woke to a vision of a girl with wings in the middle of a carribu herd, it changed then two a
romulite in one of the cells reading. It jumped to a view of what looked like a minotuar eating meat.
He noticed a scared butcher in the corner. A group of black hummers. And then countless other images
he that he didnt have time to see clearly.
He awoke and his eyes darted madly about. He winced with pain from a severe head ache. He almost tried to
sit up but he noticed the back a white lab coat. He froze, trying to stiffle his breathing."The specimen
seems to have changed dramaticly. It seems that contact with the boy completed it". He felt shock
spread through his body. He realized that he was on a cold hard surface. An examination table.
He couldnt see where the voice came from, he assumed that the other person was on the opposite side
of the table from the scientist in front of him. "The boy has changed too. I dont think we can call
him a full human anymore. Shall I have him labeled as Hybrid 005?"
"What!?! Not human anymore?! Number 005?" A million thoughts rushed through his head."We will do that later
Right now our priorities are the Ancient Project Specimen. Since this one is still incomplete
and bio scanning of it has finished. We have been given green for the physical tests. If this works,
we'll be able to step phaze two." He reached over and picked up a surgical knife. Mark realized what
they were going to do. His muscles tensed. "Noooooo!". He jumped up of the table. His headache was gone
and was replaced with a sense of urgincy.
He raised his hands and clubbed the man in front of him. He hit him with an unexpted force, sending
thhe closer scientist flying to the ground with a sickening crack. The other man dropped the knife and
ran to the alarm. Mark ran and scooped up the little huddled figure of 1034952, and rammed the door.
