not all men are made exactly the same. it's like the old alpha male/beta male thing. and there is probably mixtures of the two. more alpha male types are the guys that have that need to show their dominance. beta males are more likely to not need to show that side of them. and if the beta male doesn't get why the alpha male feels the need to do this, it isn't because he is fat and lazy.

i think there is nothing wrong with MMA. No different then any other sport.

I was out teaching at my brothers MMA club on Monday, working throws and take-downs. These guys come from all different walks of life and even though they compete against each other they have a genuine affection for each other. When they compete in MMA events, and they do, they don't hate the guy standing across from them. To use 1 John in such a way shows you don't understand combat sports.

No friend - I do understand combat sports - and I even said that I enjoy watching them. The point of the quote was simply to point out that what Mark Driscol said regarding men being "made" to fight is ludicrous - particularly if he is talking about Chrisitians. Also in light of Romans 12:18 - 18If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19Beloved, never avenge yourselves...

Driscoll is not the be all end all authority on all things scriptural and it seems like the more I listen to him the more he proves it.

In fact you could use anyone of the arguments against Christians watching or practicing MMA against football, boxing, wrestling...heck, even arm wrestling. Have you even competed on the football field? They is definitely an intent to harm when you sack a QB or take a running back out at the knees.

Nothing will be safe until we are all in touch with our feelings and greet one another with "hi de ho neighbour."

^_^

Totally agree with you - but contrary to what Driscoll says - man was not "made" to fight. In fact - I'm a little perturbed that Driscoll has the gall to refer to MMA as fighting in the context that he does.

This is why I love MMA. Forward to 5:10. Brutal Muay Thai elbow strikes. loved it.

I disagree. I believe Men should be comfortable with violence, should the need arise.

I remember being picked on in middle school and I fought back bullies, I didn't know any boxing back then, but could've came in handy.

^ So to sum it up, that guy thinks MMA is not for Christians. lol

You could say that about other sports as well.

I didn't get that at all from the article. I think his point is that MMA is not the wonderful "manly" ministry that some promote it as. He brings it back down to the level of other sports (where it belongs), which debunks Driscoll's infatuated concept of it.

Well I agree that it shouldn't be used as a Ministry, actually gotta read the article, I skimmed through it.

It should be seen as a Sport or just another job for those that fight professionally.

he doesn't really imply that at all. it was actually a good article by a former fighter who's point was that MMA needn't be glorified by Christan men as somehow being biblical. it's just a sport.
