There is only one sin that cannot be fogiven. It cannot be forgiven because it cannot be repented for. The unforgivable sin causes people to not care about their life and to not care about God. So "he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation" (Mark 3:29). It is an eternal sin that cannot be forgiven because one cannot feel guilty for it.

Yes, all sins can be forgiven IF forgiveness is asked for. "Blaspheme against the Holy Spirit" precludes asking for forgiveness.

Basically, if you "blaspheme against the Holy Spirit", it means you're an unbeliever and, hence, wouldn't ask for forgiveness. If you don't ask, you don't get it.

In Mark 3:20-30 the religious leaders, when He walked the earth, were accusing Him of having an evil spirit. He had entered a house and a crowd had gathered,so that He was'nt even able to eat. His family heard about this and were so concerned for Him, that they came to take charge of Him. They thought He was 'out of His mind'.

Then the teachers of the law, came from Jerusalem and accused Him of being under Satan's power, because of the miracles He was doing and the power that He had. Jesus refuted their argument,'How can Satan, drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided,he cannot stand, his end has come.' The arguments of the Pharisees and scribes did not make sense.

The Lord Jesus Christ, was being accused of blasphemy. As the 'Word made flesh' He had come among us. 'In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God....... The Word became flesh and dwelt among us'. By accusing Jesus of blasphemy and accusing Him of having an evil spirit, they were blaspheming God. They were also blaspheming against the Holy Spirit of God.

When someone blasphemes the Holy Spirit they are rejecting God,as well as the Son of God. They are unbelievers and cannot receive forgiveness, because there is no repentence. Repentence cannot come because they are not sorry for their sin. They are not willing to turn from their sin to God and walk according to His Word and Way.Those religious leaders, by accusing Jesus of having an evil spirit, were rejecting not only Him, but His Father and the Holy Spirit, who are One.

So a nun, rabbi, and a holy spi --

I though God forgave all sins. Need to be informed about this verse.
Hey Ymeg, I've seen you in other threads.

God will forgive all of your sins forever if you accept Jesus! Coming to Jesus involves the work of the Holy Spirit. You don't need to concern yourself about that, except to accept it.

Once accepted, you can then understand what the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is. It's usually seen as being something along these lines: when the Holy Spirit is calling you to come to Him and you say no, no, no for a long, long time, eventually He will STOP calling you. And once that happens, then you can no longer become a Christian no matter how hard you try!

So no matter how we may specifically interpret 'blaspheming' it's a serious refusal to accept the work of the Holy Spirit that He's trying to do in our life.

BUT God is very patient and long-suffering so it takes a LONG time before the above will happen. Therefore for just about everyone it's not something to be concerned about. Just something to be aware of and to keep in mind. Meantime though, here's the truth you need:

GOD WILL FORGIVE YOU OF ALL OF YOUR SINS IF YOU COME TO JESUS!!!

Good news, yes?

I was reading that verse this week, and notice how the context revolved around their perceptions of his ministry. It hit me hard how we treat each other at CF, each individual taking thestance that the other person must be mistaken, or motivated by malintent.

I wonder if this verse that has held so much mystery over the years was really meant to be directed at believers, not unbelievers.

Hi, I am a little sleepy and may have misread posts but don't see other explanations like mine.

Here is the verse:

29But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin."

There are believers and non believers. The non believers which we Christians all once were have until their dying day to believe in Jesus; that is that he died for our sins and was resurected.

The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the final rejection of the Holy Spirits prompting and calling on a persons life, and this does not occur until their last day of life. I mean that the Holy Spirit woos us till the day we die.

Now, the Spirit calls us to believe. But I can tell you that I did not knowingly or willingly reject Christ as far as I can remember, having no faith taught to me nor did I see a reason to repent; it just never came up in my life before Chirst.

I was called. For some reason I heard, and then committed my life to Christ. Then led by no man, nor the bible for I was a new Christian, I told God my sins and asked forgiveness for them. He forgave me for them all once I believed.

I may have been called many times in my life and not been aware of it. As far as I can recall, I had little to know awareness of God, however I believe children do, and as they grow become hardened.

So what I'm saying is that we are called, and we are called until we die. If we never hear; believe, then we have committed the only unpardonable sin which is unbelief.

So, I don't think it's someone who continually sins, or doesn't repent, unless of course it's their last day on earth.

First Christ comes into our lives, and depending on our understanding and knowledge or teaching we recieved we go from there as Christians.

None of us are without sin, and many continally sin yet they have been hardened to it and believe they are not sinning after all. I'm talking mainly about the sins inside us. Pride, self-righteousness etc. A person who is a Chirstian may never give over that part of himself to Christ, but he is still saved. The person may never see it in themselves, as well as God may be concerned with other issues that the person need work through. All of our sin does not stop when we believe. It is deeply deeply rooted in our lives.

It is simple in that to know Christ is to believe in his death for our sins and his resurrection.

The unpardonable sin is committed at thier death since they have rejected Christ, and the Holy Spirits prompting and callng.

And again, I was 33 when I came to Christ, now 51. Many have heard the gospel before, though I never had that I recall, and they don't 'hear' the truth for some odd reason, and then one day they do 'hear' the truth and believe in Jesus. It's a miracle in my mind.

We all come to Christ with different experiences in how we came to be known by Him. Each man has their own testimony.

The problem wth what I'm writng here, is that one might think then, well I can go on not believing since I have my whole life to believe in Christ, but we do not know th e hour of our death. It is appointed to man once to die, and then the judgement. There are no second chances.

God bless,
tapero

No, the sin of unbelief cannot be forgiven. You must choose to believe before you can be forgiven for all of your sins.

It's true, God does forgive all sins, yet if that person dies without Christ, then that is the unforgiven sin, the only one, also known as blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
