  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In Scriptures Jesus was followed by those that wanted to catch him saying or doing something wrong, those where called Pharisee.

If we spend time looking for others to fail we will never be disappointed. The Pharisee got disappointed because Jesus is the only One that did not fail. We can fix our eyes on people as a Pharisee or as Jesus did. Jesus knew everyone was a mess ,that is why He went to the Cross...I am a mess, you are a mess , they are a mess. Jesus concentrated on His Fathers will. When we can follow that example, we find out what this means... Mark 12 :30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

To love God is to want all to follow Mark 12 as Jesus did. If we take our eyes off of that, satan pulls us off in all kinds of directions . No we will not be perfect like Jesus but love is to want all to know what Jesus can do for us if we allow.

Don't forget the Shema the Jesus quotes as the introduction.
Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one. . . Deut 6:4 followed by the summary of the Law:
AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH. Mar 12:30 Here Jesus is combining Deut 6:4-5 with Lev 19:18. Historically these have been known as denoting the two Tables of the Law: Duty towards God and duty towards neighbor. The Pharisees in their zeal for Law-keeping made a whole tradition up to be even more pious and to safeguard from Law breaking. This develops into a system where the lesser parts of the Law became more weighty in the eyes of the Pharisees than say caring for parents. In fact the whole chapter 7 of Mark deals with this issue. The Scribe answers Jesus that the he agrees with Jesus in the right understanding of the Commandments. Which is why the Lord answered him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God.” In my reading I don't see the scribe trying to trap Jesus like the others. Although he is close both physically and spiritually he as though standing in an open doorway but not yet confessing He is the Messiah.

The problem is we don't do much better in keeping the law if we are honest with ourselves. If Satan doesn't pull us off in other directions we will gladly do so ourselves Which is why Jesus came in the first place. We can't keep the Law but He did for our account.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for sharing , if we love God as we should His commands are not grievous and we need to love what He loves
