Let me first state, though I believe there is nothing wrong with marijuana, it is illegal and should be abstained from until made legal. That out of the way here's my issue.

Gen 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Does science support using the verse for marijuana? Yes, seeds of the plant cannabis sativa contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain healthy human life. No other single plant source has the essential amino acids in such an easily digestible form, nor has the essential fatty acids in as perfect a ratio to meet human nutritional needs. It's no wonder that before made illegal it was in over 2/3rd of prescription drugs.

The first law ever to ban marijuana was passed by the Mormon church (popular majority) of Utah in 1915. They declared all euporiants as contrary to their religion and thus outlawed. Then Texas they said on the Texas senate floor, "All Mexicans are crazy, and this stuff (referring to marijuana) is what makes them crazy." I don't exactly agree with that statement. Montana said on their senate floor, "Give one of these Mexican beet field workers a couple of puffs on a marijuana cigarette and he thinks he is in the bullring at Barcelona." Interesting. New York said when they made it illegal, "No one here in New York uses this drug marijuana. We have only just heard about it from down in the Southwest, but we had better prohibit its use before it gets here. Otherwise all the heroin and hard narcotics addicts cut off from their drug by the Harrison Act and all the alcohol drinkers cut off from their drug by 1919 alcohol Prohibition will substitute this new and unknown drug marijuana for the drugs they used to use."
Anyway those are just a few of the state's reasons for making it illegal. Mainly racism and the desire to withhold people from all intoxicants. Now you may think, that is only the state laws, surely when it went before the federal court they had by that time much more evidence. Well, usually when a law is passed there are volumes and volumes of information leading to the law. Charles Whitebread, a professor of Law at USC once got the manuscript. He says, "When we asked at the Library of Congress for a copy of the hearings, to the shock of the Library of Congress, none could be found. We went "What?" It took them four months to finally honor our request because -- are you ready for this? -- the hearings were so brief that the volume had slid down inside the side shelf of the bookcase and was so thin it had slid right down to the bottom inside the bookshelf" What exactly went on in this brief congressional meeting? Well in the committees they had the AMA say they saw no reason for such a law, and that it could cut them off from some very important new developments in medicine. When it went to the floor of the congress one question was asked in a minute thirty-six second debate. Does the AMA approve? To which a wig answered that they were behind the bill.
Now you can read up more on the issue yourself. But basicly you can see here the law is based on lies and racism. When you read up more on it you will find it is also based on greed which is why hemp (the non-euphoric) form of marijuana was outlawed as well.
More recent arguments. Marijuana is a gateway drug. Well, that is only the case because it is connected with the harder drug markets. Marijuana according to US Govt statistics has killed 0 people in our history. But right now to get it you must go to a dealer who sells coke, crack, XTC, or herion as well. If you go into a liquor store and they also have cigarettes why not pick up both or at least try them once? And with the harder drugs when you try them once, they'll get you.
Marijuana has been proven to cure some cases of brain cancer. It's helpful in many AIDS cases. It is good for everything from ABS to glacoma to ephazima to use as mild to moderate pain killers. It is impossible to overdose. You can smoke (like I did) for years daily and stop on a dime without getting any withdrawals. If instead of buys 4 or 5 kegs these college kids would buy as much marijuana as they could get, you would not see anyone dying from marijuana poisoning. But they die all the time from alcohol poisoning. Marijuana despite it's tar content has never been linked to causing lung cancer. It is a natural expectorant, and my friends mom who smoked for over 30 years daily when she went for a check up had flawless lungs for her age.
The law came so that sin would increase. The law came to make sin exceedingly sinful. All prohibition does is drive our nation's economy further in a hole. They tell us it's working, but every year there is no drop in drug use and they end up spending billions more. This year it will cost us over 31 billion for this war on families. Over 1/2 the people in prison are in prison for peaceful crimes of self-regulation. Our prison system has become a school system for criminials. One first goes in for using marijuana in a peaceful manner then after spending a couple years with rapist, murderers, armed robbers (bad company corrupts good morals) they come out and get theyselves into worse problems because the lifestyle they learned and had to live by for so long. When they get out, their dignity is taken from them, they can not longer get good jobs because they allowed something to enter their body that someone else said shouldn't enter they body.
If someone smokes weed and steals something, they are a theif and should be punished for it. Does this mean that everyone that smokes weed is a theif? If I smoked and never stole anything should I still be punished because someone else lacked self control? Prohibition as proved by it with alcohol never works. When alcohol was prohibited, all we got was more crime. Bootlegging and the mob started. If you really want to do the right thing, put all the people selling out of business. How? By making it legal and regulating it. How many people do you see selling alcohol on the black market?
