Darn 3rd edition rules.

Paulos, get with the times! Now we're all moaning and groaning over the 4th edition rules and looking back on the 3rd edition with nostalgia. Things haven't been this bad since the 5th edition of Paranoia! ^_^

I remember flipping out over AC going from negative to positive.

How bad is 4th Edition?

Well. From what I know of the fourth I am not going to switch. I have tons of 3.5th ed books. And got introduced to D&D only in 3rd edition. So I don't think going back to 2nd is very likely either.

Though 4th edition? Mmmmeh.... It seems and sounds like they have dumbed it down too much.
Me no like dumbed down.

Oh, I have no idea -- I've just heard people complain about it. I have forsaken D&D (aside from the occasional game of Neverwinter Nights) for the heresy that is GURPS.

Depart from me! Accursed deviator!

I want Neverwinter Nights. Know if it runs on Vista?

I adored Baldur's Gate I & II. I rocked the house as a half-elf thief. Backstab, folks. Backstab.

It's nice and open-ended, which I like more than being just stuck to a predefined character archetype. Unfortunately, it can take a lot more in the way of supplemental books than D&D, which is why I try to hang around with people who have already made that investment and borrow off of them. ;)

The dearly departed Westend Games Masterbook system is similar, but a little less refined. The good thing is there's fewer books, and when you can actually find them they're rather cheap.

I don't know if the original NWN runs on Vista, let alone if NWN2 runs on it.

But I have gotten NWN working under Linux! (Although one of my favorite hakpacks, unfortunately, doesn't work right.)

Addendum:

Here's what Bioware has to say: All versions of Neverwinter Nights up to v1.68 [the most recent update] are not compatible with Windows Vista and have been blocked from installation by the operating system. If you are having difficulty running Neverwinter Nights on Windows Vista ensure that the game has been updated to v1.68 and that you are running the game as an administrator. Neverwinter Nights is not officially supported when run under Windows Vista.

The thought that I'd have to dual-boot Linux to run a Windows game...that amuses me.

I still have my 1st edition books, you can't make me switch! Sure it took and hour to find a rule, but that was part of the fun!

GURPS is a great open ended system. I love using it for campain settings that there are no rules for yet.
