Matthew 24:5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am Christ,’ and will deceive many.

If they come in the Lord's name, then what is the implication of claiming 'I am Christ'?
Christ-christos means anointed one. Therefore, they are claiming "I am Anointed". Beware of those who make this claim.
The Anointing is found in the fellowship of Saints by the Holy Spirit, not an individual.

John is addressing the Ecclesia, not individuals when he states:
1 John 2:26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.
27 But the Anointing (chrisma) which you have received from Him abides in you, and you
do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same Anointing teaches you concerning all things,
and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

When the Ecclesia has been broken down unto essentially "not one stone left upon another",
then the chrisma will no longer function but will be taken out of the way.

2 Thessalonians 2:6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.

you

The word many in the bible really catches my attention. If the Word of God said few I would not pay any attention at all or at least very little. But many can mean more than half. Esp when Jesus contrasts many with few. The Bible clearly says one-third will be saved and two-thirds will perish.

Zechariah 8 And in all the land, declares the LORD, two-thirds will be cut off and perish, but a third will be left in it. 9 This third I will bring through the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are My people,’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.’”

Although I can’t disagree with your assessment I think there is another way to look at this which makes the warning a little clearer, especially considering the original Greek manuscripts didn’t have any punctuation.

If you look at the statement,

“many will come in my name saying I am Christ and will deceive many”

and consider the reality of what has happened over the centuries and what is happening today it can be seen that many have come in Christ’s name saying that he is Christ and have deceived many.
