There won't be anyone having children though, not after the resurrection
Over the years of trying to figure things out, I have come to a few strong conclusions, among which is that the things of this earth are pictures or figures of the things to come. I honestly don't believe there is anything here, but sin and its results, that won't be shown to be vapors compared to the real thing in the next life. One example would be to say that God is not like the fathers on earth, but that the fathers on earth are like God --however poorly they may be so. Another such example is to say that God is not male, like human or animals can be males; rather, he is masculine --super-masculine, actually-- and what is masculine on earth is weakly so by comparison, males being only one example of masculinity.
Many insist that good hermeneutics show that the word "as", in "as a bride" (Rev 21:2) proves the New Jerusalem is not the Bride herself but is only AS a bride in some way, though I have yet to hear some way that would happen. Anyhow, I believe the New Jerusalem, the place Christ went to heaven to prepare for us IS THE ELECT. (I can't prove it, of course, but there are just too many pictures given, too many indicators, and by thinking this is so there are too many things in scripture that finally line up for me, for me to think otherwise. And I admit, I could be wrong.)
My sister says she has no interest in a city, no matter how glorious and beyond imagination, though she admits God can change her mind agout it if he wishes to. I myself, and many other believers I know, hate crowds and some even don't like people, specially unfamiliar people. But THIS --a place for God to be with us, and for us to finally be with him and see him as he is-- the places where each individual has his own name, but everything (everyone) is part of everything (everyone) else, the Bride of Christ, bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh, has the REAL things that we thought we saw on earth --dwelling places, pearls for gates, transparent gold for streets, living water, and so on.
Haha, the biggest reason I can find for not believing I have this right is that I can sort of imagine it, but God says it is beyond imagination.
Forget the mansions. You will be able to worship God in the throne room.
Yes. The tabernacle is the easiest figure with which to understand the new heaven. Outer court, inner court, holy of holies. Israel, Jerusalem, Zion. Birthright, blessing, inheritance.walk, run, overcome.Over the years of trying to figure things out, I have come to a few strong conclusions, among which is that the things of this earth are pictures or figures of the things to come. Remember that this life is nowhere near as REAL as the next, but like a vapor in comparison. True the next is not to be compared to this one, but the things we consider metaphors and figures may well be [spiritually] real.In Revelation 1v 10, John says he was in the spirit. This indicates that we need to take what he goes on to say, spiritually, not just naturally. Throughout the Bible 'sea' is always is a spiritual symbol for the unsaved. And the mansions need to be taken spiritually too. If you look back through the Bible at all the architectural metaphors it is clear what the mansions represent spiritually and where they will be.
Worship there will not be like here. What's here is a poor example, limited by form and content and contributor.actually for me, that image is what drives my most pessimistic thoughts about eternity that I have, that all we'll do is fall on our faces in front of the throne and sing. If that's all we do that's just another version of hell for me. I get bored of doing things that I like in short amounts of time, and I hate singing, so how fast will I get bored of doing something I hate doing and only do because I'm commanded to?
Agreed. It's like, if you married now, if every day was then exactly the same forever you'd explode with boredom. But it's actually only the beginning of a wonderful adventure (christ & the church is a good marriage not a rubbish one so let's think of good marriage examples here!) We don't know what it's going to be like exactly, but it's going to be FANTASTIC.Worship there will not be like here. What's here is a poor example, limited by form and content and contributor.
if it's doing the same thing over and over forever, it'd still be boring. The children of Israel were fed manna from heaven, and what happened? They got bored of eating the same thing every day and complained.Worship there will not be like here. What's here is a poor example, limited by form and content and contributor.
And enjoyment of each other, which is one thing I am really looking forward to. The finally seeing each other as the complete being God had in mind when he made us --not quite the person we knew on earth and considered someone in and of themselves but the son of God finally revealed.I think we will be happy there anyway. I am not keen on crowds or endless socialising either but I am sure there will be plenty of space.for us to.spread out and do what we enjoy.doing. We will be with God so I see.life as being a bit like the best bits in earth. No sin or pain though. Just endless joy and worship and love for ?God and each other
Agreed, we don't know, but I have come to think the figurative things we consider real here, will be replace with the REAL thing there. No effort of God's in creating will be mere 'filler', but it is all used, nothing wasted.I remember being upset reading about how there will be no sea on the new earth because I love the beach. But some say "sea" means the unsaved world, so maybe there will be beaches! If not, am sure I will still be happy because there is no sadness in Heaven and no eye has seen what God has prepared for those who love Him
^^This^^ Come on folks. Its one thing to not initially know the right answer but once you’ve heard it a light should go on.It is an allusion to the Jewish wedding...the groom goes and prepares a place in his father's house and then when the father says it is ready, the groom goes and brings the bride.
That [The New Jerusalem] actually sounds quite small considering there will be so many of us there
John 14:2
Now I realize in other translations they translate it as "many rooms" or "many abodes" but typically when people think of heaven the "many mansions" illustration gets used, and it is even used as "something to look forward to" in heaven/new earth. But to me, it has never really mattered, desiring material wealth was something I grew out of a long time ago. But I've been thinking about it, and I realize, I don't even know if there's really a point to a "mansion" in heaven. We won't need sleep, so who needs a bedroom, as far as we know we're going to be eating fruit off the tree of life, so won't really need a kitchen... everyone's going to be single and not have any children, so you wouldn't need any extra rooms for extra people.. just a bunch of bachelor pads... if you'd even need one of those for any purpose as you wouldn't need shelter from the elements.. so what would be the point? Even in Isaiah there's imagery of people building houses... for what?

There is time spent in heaven .... UNTIL ... God makes a new heaven and earth and He will established His kingdom on it .... and will dwell with all of us for eternity.
It's back to Eden my friend like before the fall of mankind ... He created everything perfect and it will be restored to perfection.
I don't know if this is true or not. I read somewhere that a small child asked his father if he would have his dog in heaven. The father said he did not know but he would take his child to his pastor. The pastor said "If God thinks you need your dog in heaven he will be there."I hope.there will be guinea pigs there. I guess there will be!
True. Haha. I get started making a point and have to make a side point first, then forget to bring it to the main point.if it's doing the same thing over and over forever, it'd still be boring. The children of Israel were fed manna from heaven, and what happened? They got bored of eating the same thing every day and complained.
But anyway, that's a tangent. This thread is less about what we'll do in heaven, and whether or not these mansions are real literal things and more about, what will be the purpose of them.
Well that's the rub, as you said you like oceans and beaches, and God said there will be no more of those, unless that language is figurative, it would mean we don't get everything we want.I hope.there will be guinea pigs there. I guess there will be!
