Aww i hoped someone would start a thread on this so I didn't have to!!! I loved it, full of songs from my childhood with a fabulous message! It wasn't perfect, there was definitely some cringworthy singing and dodgy acting (the two thieves in the back of the van!) There was no oscar worthy acting or refined clipped british accents. No drawling john-wayne-like centurians. It was raw, human, emotional, confrontational, controversial. I especially loved how they dressed "Jesus" in the orange jumpsuit with a bag over his head and led him off to be crucified offscreen. It was great how the people literally carried the cross through the streets of manchester. I loved how rather than being associated with Jesus the revolutionary who stood up the the marginalised, we were assicated with Pilate, the one who just followed orders. I loved how the songs took on a whole new wealth of meaning when fit with the story of Jesus.
Those who feel the breath of sadness
Sit down next to me
Those who find they’re touched by madness
Sit down next to me
Those who find themselves ridiculous
Sit down next to me
