For those of us in the USA, the movie "Man of God" is now available to watch for free, but with ads, on YouTube!

(why it has the age disclaimer, I'll never know, but if you click it it should take you to a new tab or window)

Carry on.

Today is his feast day!

Saint Nektarios, intercede for me a sinner.

Yes an excellent example, but what is sad is churches create saints to give the impression to the people that they can never act in the same ways, setting saints above the realm of ordinary man, and the people instead must remain under the control of the church which itself usually persecuted it's own. It maintains the clergy's status by giving themselves an excuse not to act as the saints did but still claim to represent God. This story is a good example of just that.

that’s not how we view the saints at all.

Watched yesterday with ten year old daughter. She liked it. And we didn’t even know today was his day.

Coincidentally or providentially, we have icons of Ss Nicholas and Nektarios next to each other, or rather Nicholas above Nektarios. If you know the backstory to St. Nektarios, there’s a strong connection between the two of them that I never knew about when putting up the icons. We thought that was cool.

On the contrary, they show the rest of us what ordinary men and women are capable of when we wholly trust God. They are examples for the rest of us to aspire to. Also, the Church does not "create saints". It merely recognises what God reveals about that person. The paralised man who was healed at the end of the movie truly happened. The hospital ward was eventually converted into a chapel because the smell of myrrh became so strong that they were no longer able to keep patients there. There have been literaly hundreds, if not thousands of miracles attributed to St Nektarios after his death
and the people instead must remain under the control of the church which itself usually persecuted it's own.
The Church has wheat and tares, including among the clergy. What is remarkable about the life of St Nektarios is that he remained obedient to the Church to the very end, putting up with false accusations, being stripped of his position and exiled from his homeland of Egypt.
It maintains the clergy's status by giving themselves an excuse not to act as the saints did but still claim to represent God. This story is a good example of just that.
I'm sorry, but I don't see how that follows.

No, the saints are role models for us. Anyone can play hockey, but not everyone is Wayne Gretzky.

And for the Orthodox Church, the majority of our saints are actually lay people, not clergy.

not only that, but everyone WILL be a saint who is at the Father’s right hand. they are the examples of what we all will be if we are saved.
