In the beginning, all creatures great and small-- and the really small --lived in peaceful co-existence with Man.

Gen 1:26-27 . .Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth."

. . . So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth."

That peaceful arrangement lasted for quite a while, even till the days of Noah, but then ended when the Flood subsided.

Gen 9:2 . . .The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every bird of the air, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea;

From thence, all creatures great and small-- and the really small --began regarding Man not as their sovereign, but as both predator and prey, viz: they not only mistrusted Man, but also began killing Man and nourishing themselves with his body parts.

It was right about then when human longevity began shrinking. Not a lot at first. Noah lived to be 950 years old, but Abraham lived only 175-- in his day considered a ripe old age --and by the time of David, it was 80. Just exactly how large a role microbes played in shrinking the average human life span in the past I don't know, but they were undoubtedly a factor then just as they are now.

Microbes behind diseases like swine flu, colds, E.coli, STDs, AIDS, Lyme disease, diphtheria, dysentery, hepatitis C, cholera, typhus, tetanus, small pox, measles, chicken pox, tooth decay, etc, are facts of life that Man has been contending with ever since the Flood ended. These health issues are not the exception, they are the rule in Man's everyday life and we often make things worse for ourselves by poor diet, poor sanitation, poor hygiene, overcrowding, and tampering with nature.
