Hi so what did God mean when he said

Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Take note he said in our image and our likeness he did not say in my image and my likeness so what dose our image and our likeness meas I believe it means God and the heavenly host so what dose that look like the best example we have is Israel Gods son in the flesh who must come first.
So how is Israel created we have Moses the head represents God we have Aaron the high priest represents Christ then we have the tribe of Levi represents the church then we have the eleven tribe represents the children of God represents the multitude that Christ will present to the Father at the end of creation.
The word man should be read as mankind not as a single man otherwise it would mean Hitler would be in the image of God unthinkable so man in the image of God is a whole multitude of believers.

Love and Peace

When it says God created man in His image it took place before the human body was provided for the soul.

For the Hebrew word "bara" means to create something out from nothing. Only God can create that way.

In regards to the human body? The Hebrew makes it clear that the body was created out from something (the elements of the earth).

Genesis 1:27
So God created (out from nothing) man in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

God created both male and female souls, in Genesis 1:27.
Its our soul that is in God's image!

grace and peace .......

Hi GenemZ
Thank you for your post but God did not say he would make man in his image but he said he would make man in our image and our likeness which I take to mean in the image of the Father and the heavenly host this will be Jesus Christ and the multitude of believers which he will present to the Father when he returns.

Love and Peace

God is a trinity... That is why He said "our image."

Both the male soul and female soul were in God's image.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

"In His own image."

Hi Genemz
Thank you for your reply if Gods a trinity you will have to give scripture which proves it.
Crist is the only person in scripture who is said to be the image of the Father

Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

So man in the image of God is Jesus Christ when he presents himself before the Father with a whole multitude of believers this is man in the image of God

I don't think Christ is the image of God, He is God in the flesh. I think image means not the same as but rather reflects God, reflects His goodness. I think perhaps God giving us dominion over the earth and all its creation may be an insight into how we are made in His image but not God Himself.

God has dominion over all but He has created us with some degree of dominion over creation which makes us more than the created. More than the sum of our fallen flesh natures. We can rise above our flesh natures towards a higher status we once had.

Its interesting that when people reject God as creator things flip and they turn to the created as a god, to animal instincts, nature and the skies. Even making themselves gods. God in mans image rather than man in Gods image.

Hi sþevevw
Thank you for your post but I think you'll find it contradicts scripture which says

Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Are you a Jehovah Witness?
The reason I asked?
You speak like one.

Really, I find no reason to try to reason with someone who can not...

Ok thanks. Yes Christ is the image of God in that He was God on earth and not made in Gods image like humans which I think reflects God rather than is God. Being God He never sinned and can have no evil in Him. But we humans do.

Christ also said He is God, that He is immanuel God made flesh among us. That is different to being made in Gods image which has qualities of God created in us as created beings we have fallen and sin. Christ was not created, He always has been and will be. So in that sense He is what created our image.

Hi Stevevw
Thank you for your reply yes Christ is the son of God he also said he was the son of man which man was he the son of it was not Joseph God was his Father so that leaves Israel the man in Gods image Christs elder brother this to fulfil the scriptures the elder brother will kill the younger the story of Cain and Able history repeating itself.

Love and Peace
