Really? Isn't there a stupid shooter law which fines a person
Yes, depending on jurisdiction, reckless discharge of a firearm, discharge within city limits, and reckless endangerment (with counts numbering = to number of people present) are all possible charges. The police aren't the state's attorney, opinions they have about charges are as qualified as mine.

and makes them pay for the paramedics
Yes, generally people in income brackets above homeless are charged for paramedic services.

who tend to people who have no idea the issue of gun safety?
He had a FL permit which requires certification of training. Willfully disobeying that training is the issue rather than a lack of training on gun safety.

Good thin he didn't shoot some kid on lane 8.
Yuppers, that would add a charge to the list of possibles. FL's prohibition on open carry tends to encourage "deep" carry or very small guns. There are some good wallet holsters out there, but this guy apparently decided to opt for a Plaxico Burress re-enactment. Shame.

A revolver in a short pocket? Wouldn't that be really uncomfortable even without the thing going off?

Carrying an appropriately sized gun for pocket carry (with an appropriate pocket holster) is no more uncomfortable than carrying a cellphone or wallet. It may weigh a little more, but otherwise is not as noticeable as you might think.

Without even reading the article, I can guess, as is often the case with negligent discharges (as guns don't go off on their own), the person in question did something wrong to cause the gun to go off. In this case, it was most likely not using a fully enclosed pocket holster. I do not trust any form of holster that does not cover the trigger (so no slide clips or any of their ilk).

There is still the question of what pulled the trigger though, such as did something snag on his pants, did he have something else in the pocket besides the gun, was he handling the gun, etc.

I'd wager he wasn't using any sort of pocket holster and was playing with the gun.

Bystander said revolver, but didn't necessarily see the gun. That said, leaving it cocked, it wouldn't take much to set off a mini-derringer:

NAA, advertises that they have a half-[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] notch so it can be carried fully loaded. I like half-[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] notches on higher end (than glock) semi-autos with full trigger guards, but I also keep them in holsters. Going around half cocked without a holster or trigger guard with a mini revolver that MSRP's around $210 is . . . . yeah, probably a recipe for shooting one's leg (at best). I agree, he was probably fiddling with it, maybe cocking and uncocking (which requires thumb on the hammer gently lowering it while pulling the trigger) not a great idea with a loaded revolver pointed in a unsafe direction. The witnesses saying it sounded like a firecracker also makes the pictured gun type a likely culprit. A .22 muffled by pants in the acoustic environment of a bowling alley would register like a small firecracker.

Yeah, I was thinking the revolver might have gotten cocked somehow too, but that still left something to hit the trigger.

When I hear "pocket revolver" I assume a "J-frame .38 Special" type thing, but it sure does seem like an NAA .22 would fit the circumstances. It would explain the gun being able to be set off by being bumped by a bowling ball(as a couple witnesses claim) since it has no trigger guard, and it would explain the relatively quiet report and light injury.

I like them as a safety measure as in 1911's for if you slip up cocking the gun or the sear breaks or something, but I don't know if I'd like to carry a gun at half-[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse], although I guess it could make a DA/SA gun more managable.

Older style revolvers didn't have a hammer block and could be set off by a shock if the chamber under the hammer were loaded. I'm not sure whether any of the prehammer block revolvers were pocket sized (other than derringers), or whether this guy was carrying one of these older revolvers, but it could fit the witness claim that it being bumped by a bowling ball set it off. This would then become a case of not knowing your weapon (as a holster would not stop this type of discharge).

He (the guy in green) doesn't look the type to be carrying vintage

To be honest, he looks like that stupid white, middle aged, NRA member, quasi-Zimmerman, prone to buy the latest gadget gun so long as it is cheap . . . the left is so keen to paint EVERY gun owner as. Unfortunately, this guy is what helps encourage them with their stereotyping. If Obama is a great gun salesman, this guy sure helps re-stoke what was pretty dead, the move to further regulate guns.

You got all that from the blurry photo? I do not care about the color of their skin, political affiliation, age, or intelligence of the man. Apparently you do?
I care that he endangered everybody in the bowling alley by discharging his weapon in a public place. There should be some legal repercussions and his gun license revoked.

It was less blurry in the video, before I shot my screen in the dark with the flash off with an I-phone. Middle aged, white, overweight are all readily viable. Conservative dress and haircut aren't exclusively conservative. . . but. . . he fits your meme man! Like it. Here is a fat middle aged white guy, too stupid not to shoot himself, too irresponsible to chose a less public place to shoot himself and yeah . . . this is the kind of dumb bunny that the anti-gun folk want to paint EVERY gun owner as, as soon as the conversation turns to 2A vs tyranny. He is, the stereotype. This is not some semantic trap, he is the kernel of truth behind all the "gun owners would last 6 seconds against the almighty power of the military which would undoubtedly side completely with any dictator" meme. He wouldn't, I am guessing. We know from the news that he had a valid FL permit, which means he had training he was too stupid to use. Years from now, you can point back at this guy as "a gun owner in America" & use him as validation for whatever anti-gun claim. He put egg on "gun owner's" faces and I am stepping up to admit as much as I can about the guy. I don't know him but I watched the news clip and recognize walmart shorts and a gel free haircut when I see it

I do not care about the color of their skin, political affiliation, age, or intelligence of the man. Apparently you do?
Well just like the unfortunate kids in that low income senior housing, who had that gun incident you mentioned in another thread, it always seems to come up when it is advantageous to the other side. Here it is, it validates your meme. I am admitting that it validates the brush you would paint all gun owners with and that seems to be making you uncomfortable. Sorry. You win this one, it is okay. He is obviously a white middle aged overweight conservative, I suspect he wouldn't do much but wet himself if confronted with soldiers. So enjoy your kernel of truth man, it is okay.

and
(a) For a misdemeanor of the first degree, by a definite term of imprisonment not exceeding 1 year;
I vote one charge of discharge of a firearm in public for each person present an the sentences to run consecutively. Don't know how many people were there but I'd like to see him give away a bunch of years and fines to the max.

Yeah man, under the bus with this guy.

Why is this in the politics forum?

There need to be deep charges for this guy. I've had guns all my life and I have never accidentally almost killed a lot of people.
I have matches, does anyone have a stake we can put this guy on.

Apparently you looked right past my words and made up whatever you wanted. I said:

I never saw the man's face or read any description of the man when I posted this thread.

Try, for once, to get past your political bias against others.

I support it. This guy and Zimmerman are enough to get the ball rolling the wrong way & just after we got up enough momentum to shut down the most blatant emotional manipulation. Deep charges, the book to the max in 1 billion font, launched by trebuchet at him, I don't want to settle for a book thrown at him unless it weighs in the tons! When the book lands on him, I want it to leave a crater and cause seismic readings.

Do try to stick to the topic at hand.
I am sticking to the topic at hand. It's a reflection of your anti-gun, anti-NRA screeds in other threads.
You didn't change your mind between those posts and these where you mock people who are injured by gunfire, did you?

What could we do post-book-throwing to make sure less idiots make this happen? What can prevent the next guy with a gun in his pocket from having it go off? It seems to happen pretty frequently.
