I thought God was all-loving. I don't see how He could hate a person. I was reading Malachi 1:3 in a translation of the Tanakh and it said that God "rejected Esau". Wouldn't this be a better translation?
I don't think these verses were eluding to actual hatred,, but that it was less of a love and a reminder that the promises and blessings were to be fulfilled through Jacob NOT Esau.

All-loving? Maybe you should let the Bible define its own terminology. Romans 13:10 states that "love" is the fulfillment of the Law. What Law? God's Law. 1 John 5:3: states that is "The Love of God", that we keep his commandments and they are not grievous.

God shows you love by treating you according to his own law. We show God love by following his Law. We show other people "love" by treating them according to God's law.

This is how God is All-loving. Yes, there is a Father-Child relationship love as well, but that goes hand in hand with the love expressed in these two passages. God shows you that Father-Child love by treating you according to His own Law

As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Rom 9:13

Did God really hate Esau or is this a mistranslation? God doesn't hate anyone does He? He may have disapproved of Esau or hated what he did, but I don't think He could hate Esau himself. What do yall think?
My take on it, is that its in the context of election. Look at it in the context of mercy, some have obtained and some will obtain it...

Notice Bible (God) didn't say this until after Jacob and Esau became nations. History of these nations give light to this statement. Even Romans chapter 9 Paul referrring to his own people which some called a parenthetic it proves god not finished with the nation Isreal. So it important to keep these verses in context. Romans 9-11 main topic is clearly Isreal

I agree, it is about election as we see in Romans 9:11-13. It's hard to believe that God could hat esomone from the womb, but God is justified in doing so, becasue the simple fact of sin.

In Romans 9, Paulwas using Jacob and Esau as an example for election. (Romans 9 is about election)

It is God's soveirgn choice as to whom he will have mercy on.

When C.H. Spurgeon was asked how God could hate Esau, he replied by asking how God could love Jacob. I think that's the attitude w need to take.
