• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If im lucky i will be starting therapy next week and i want to be able to be helped as much as possible. Does anyone have any advice for being able to do the things that are not sinful that the therapist tells me to do? Sometimes i find it very hard to do what people tell me to do to get better from my ocd because of how strong my ocd is. I want to be able to get better and i dont just want what the therapist says to not have an effect.

Please offer any thoughts that you have because this is very important to me. Thanks.

Hi Drummingman,
Just be sure that you don't allow your fearful emotions to overule your logical mind. You'll know deep down and rationally whether something is sinful or not. Expect to feel extremely anxious when you are asked to ignore an obsession or to not engage in a compulsion. Try to remember that our anxious OCD feelings do not equal truth they only make us feel that something is terribly wrong when it's not. We have to allow or stay with our obsessions - we can't unthink them. But we do have a choice about whether or not we make them worse by performing the compulsions.
Praying for you!
