  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Henny -- when you report a thread here on CF, does the report go to the forum mods and to the staff above the forum mods too, or to only the forum mods? (just curious)
It is sent to the Mods of that forum, and to the admins if there are no mods.

However, once *you* have followed the rules by reporting rather than taking action in the thread - and you do not see the issue corrected - you can then contact the Admins, even taking it to AngelAmidala if you feel necessary ;)

I am a little shocked by the hatred and anger I see here. :(

I read that thread, and I agree that there was one Orthodox person who rude in his statements. Some of the rest of what I think you were referring to was written by non-Orthodox folks who visit our forum. But based on that, to dismiss us in general to be anti-Semites?? Despite some things that I thought were rude and uncalled for, I found nothing that I believe smacks of hatred or racism or anything like it, which, believe me, is something I'm usually pretty sensitive to. Some spoke out against the Talmud. I don't know anything about it, so I have no opinion. But it seems to me that disliking your book because it seems to speak out against our faith is not anything akin to anti-Semitism or disliking the Jews as a people.

I'm saddened. I can hardly believe these knee jerk reactions based on the statements of only one or two people.

Dear Moses wife, Karen, I just responded to a post by your husband I assume and it was not talking of our sages writings, but the Holy word itself, here is my answers to him. The hatred is not from us, but from those who wish to hold rights to something that was in love given to them as theirs alone and kick in the face those that gave it to them. Y'shua never told us we should be assimilated, but the gentile world is jealous and wants to make us out like we are not called ( by G-d himself) his chosen people, and that the New covenant was to be made with us, but that salvation would come through us that the world might be reconciled to G-d.

The book of Acts was written in Greek. Messiah is a Hebrew word. It means "Anointed One." Christ is Greek for "Annointed One."

Actually 'Christ' is the English tranlation of the Greek 'Christos' which is a translation of the Hebrew word 'Moschiah' which in English is Messiah
The verse in Greek clearly says "Christian" and not "Messianic." Does it matter? Well, not really.

The verse in Greek says 'Christianos' which Anglicized is 'Christians', but in a English/Hebrew tranlation would be 'Messianic'.

-BUT-

It is bothersome that somebody would replace the actual word, which has a very simple translation and no room for interpretation like "Christian" and arbitrarily replace it with a synonymn. This is a deliberate attempt to add validity to a movement which is relatively recent and has no connection to the Christians in Antioch. It's a subtle thing, but that's how the devil works.

Yes, bothersome, but to who? The CJB was made to show Jews that not just the Tenach is their Jewish Bible but also the scriptures called the "New Testament" belong to them as well. Many Jews have been killed in the name of "Christ" by "Christians" and to them it is a foreign concept, not their promised Moschiah. David Stern was only trying to show whose book it was written for in the first place, to the Jew First and then the gentile.

It is no attempt to add validity to a "movement" but to erase years of anti-semitism founded on a book that belongs to the Jews firstly. This translation is mearly showing the "Jewishness" of this whole work, written by Jews for Jews and then the nations.

If you continue with the thought that this is a new movement then I have to say that you don't understand what the book is about in the first place. Y'shua's followers were Jewish, their followers were Jewish, there were thousands of Jewish believers in Israel in the first century. We are just a remnant of them.

I do hope Sir that you are not referring to this work as a work of the devil?

Of course, if somebody is an Orthodox Christian, and is firmly grounded in the Life of The Church, a different Bible version isn't a big deal. Even if it does change words on purpose in order to decieve the reader.

NO words were changed to decieve, but to bring understanding to the intended audience. I know of no promotion to the Orthodox Greek or Russian Church or RCC for that matter of this publication.

One more word about this:

Even if it does change words on purpose in order to decieve the reader.

That is the whole reason for this publication, because it was not translated as it was written. And speaking of changes, Why is the English word "Testament" used? The Jewish Bible is simply called the Tenach , which is an anagram of the compilation of the scrolls it contains, Torah, Prophets and Writings. The 'New' contains the Gospels, letters, and Prophecies. Yet the English ( Gentile) Bible is broken into the "Old testament" and the "New Testament". The Greek word "diatheke" is better translated as Covenant. The word 'testament" can also denote a will. But what was promised in Jeremiah was a new covenant, to the Jews, and not a will. So if anyone has changed anything to decieve it was not David Stern.

Moses

Shalom

One closing word, We believe in a risen Messiah, who is still alive and still Jewish!

No one called you (or anyone else) an antisemite... I stated that the ideas presented were antisemetic, and warned Lotar not to go down that path. These types of ideas have been used in the past to persecute the Jews to bloody deaths. I'd like to think that a christian community would be shocked and outraged that such ideas are presented before them. Instead, we find in that thread many people who want to defend the antisemetic statements.
