I am quite interested about the call to stop dumping cheap food on africa. It was only 20 years ago that the same pop stars were calling everyone to dump free food on africa.

CJ.23 said:Hi John, I was atounded that no one seems to be mentioning the Make Poverty History Live 8 Concerts. 250,000 people in London, 1.5 million in Philadelphia, concerts in all the G8 nations and Pink Floyd reform and play a live set. That is news! Huge marches will follow all week. Is this not headline news akll over the States?

rebel_conservative said:secondly, the BBC is not there to broadcast explicitly political messages in such a neutral and unchallenged way.
Robbie_James_Francis said:Political messages like "make poverty history"? I fail to see why anyone would disagree with that ideal...I don't think you are disagreeing with this, but I don't see what other "political messages" are being sent...
rebel_conservative said:lol, 30 million Britons could sign a petition calling for the G8 Conference to end the gravity now, that doesn't mean that it is within their power to rid the world of Newton's shackles.
no, it is just yet more proof of the falling standards in British education

What a nice way to justify suffering. I know you didn't mean it like that, but that kind of "it's out of our hands" thinking leads to inaction. We can't solve all of the world's problems, but we can make huge strides in getting everyone on the planet proper food, water, medicine, housing, and education.Gallant effort, I suppose, but it ain't gonna happen til our Lord comes back.

Yes Zimbabwe, also known as that African country held out by missions organizations as one of the greatest success stories of evangelism, while at the same time being now considered one of the most corrupt countries in Africa. Go figure.rebel_conservative said:yes, Rhodesia, once the largest food exporter in Southern Africa, now called Zimbabwe, is dependent upon food aid after the govt stole the white-owned farms.
