  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh my gosh conk--I saw that a while ago on the news! Tragic and horrifying. Those poor people.

You know-when we were in DAlls on that big clover leaf road--the one where there are like 4 levels of higway stacked on top of each other. I told my husband that it made me very nervous to be on the darn thing.I said--what if this thing collapses. He laughed at me-------he's not laughing now.

DJ--while I was watching the video from your link-my heart stopped when I saw that there were cars and pedestrians on another bridge over looking the disaster. I thought--OH MY GOSH--get off there.

Then the camera panned wide and I saw that the bridge had arches, and then I didn't worry so much. The arch is the strongest base known. This is why so many ancient structures are still standing today. The Romans made heavy use of them.

There's 7 dead now... There was a school bus full of kids that had just got across when it happened. Praise God that it wasn't in the middle of the bridge.... Out of the 60 kids on the bus, 10 had to go to the hospital, but as far as I know it's nothing majorly serious......

four confirmed dead; as many as 30 missing. Because the Twin Cities (St. Paul and Minneapolis and surropunding suburbs) are split by the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers we have at least 5 dozen bridges around here. The bad news is that our bridges are rated among the top ten as the worst in the nation--Rhode Island is on top, then states like New York and Pennsylvania.

Maybe especially when you consider that the maintenance work is being outsourced overseas. End up with a plane like the one they had in Brazil where the maintenance people had disconnected(?) the reverse thrusters while they worked on the plane and then "forgot" to turn them back on! Then there's the pilots from a ceratin Eastern Eruopean country who when they come in for a landing they smack the plane down onto the runway!

They just put a new bridge on a highway I take every day on my way to college. While they were constructing it, traffic would get stopped on the old bridge they were replacing. Sometimes for more than 20 minutes at a time.

I was stuck on the old bridge one day and my youngest son yelled out the window to one of the guys (standing right beside the old bridge, but on the new bridge) and said something a 4-year-old would say like "I like your hat".

The guy leaned over and said thanks and something cute. And I asked him why they were putting the new bridge in, was it just to expand the lanes or what?

I'm not kidding that he said "no, that bridge is almost 75-years-old and it could go at any minute".

Keep in mind I was ON the old bridge when he said it!

I was on that bridge probably 10 more minutes and it was the longest 10 minutes of my life!

This is precisely why I don't fly anymore. I always hated flying, but now I am terrified of it.

Nope--no more 'aropwain wides for Winda'!!

When I was going to school in Berrien Springs my lady friend and I would walk her dogs down by the river and we'd cross under a bridge where there were concrete pieces falling down from the underside of the bridge which was built (get this) with wooden beams!

A friend of mine lost his good friend in that collapse. His friends name was Pat Holmes and he leaves behind his wife and two kids. I also learned that his wife's father unexpectedly died only two months ago. If you wouldn't mind, would you pray for that family?
There seems to be some sort of mixup.

"The eight people reported missing and feared dead in the bridge collapse have been identified as Christine Sacorafas, 45, of White Bear Lake; Vera Peck, 50, and her son Richard Chit, 20, both of Bloomington; Greg Jolstad, 45, of Mora; Peter Hausmann, 47, of Rosemount; Sadiya Sahal, 23, of St. Paul, and her 2-year-old daughter, Hanah; and Scott Sathers, 29, of Maple Grove." from http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20199544/

I found him!

The known dead as of 8/07 were:

Artemio Trinidad-Mena, 29, of Minneapolis
Sherry Engebretsen, 60, of Shoreview
Patrick Holmes, 36, of Mounds View
Julia Blackhawk, 32, of Savage Paul Eickstadt, 51, of Mounds View

I couldn't remember a "Pat"--one of my aunts' name!
