  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Magisterial Documents?

Do you reference Magisterial documents when forming your opinion about an issue?

  • Yes, the Church's teaching is of great importance to me.

  • No, I could care less about what the Church has to say.

When forming an opinion about an issue dealing with the Church (for example: priestly celibacy) do you read what the Magisterium has to say about the issue (ie, Encyclicals, Apostolic Letters, Apostolic Exhortations, Congregation Documents, etc.)?

Please explain why or why not.

Absolutely. The wisdom of the Church appears to be overlooked today by some Catholics. They figure if it was written 5 centuries ago it must not apply today. Not so. In fact, I challenge that.

The Church did not begin or end in 1960.
Here! Here!

I currently have 20 documents sitting on my desk that I need to read or re-read. My favorites so far are "Dogmatic Constitution of the Catholic Church" and "Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy". Right now, I'm digging into more of the historical documents and the history of the church. Interesting stuff.

I also love reading what the Church has to say. I plan on reading all of the Encyclicals by the Popes from Pope Leo XIII to Pope John Paul II over the break. I have read all of Pope John Paul II's and a few others and I am continuously amazed by the wisdom that is within the Encyclicals. I also hope to read the documents that these Encyclicals cite often.

Thank God for the Church.

I'm glad we can see who voted. It was nice to see a Protestant chime in as usual as the only no.

This is a great post and it is quite telling.
Well, that is the reason why I made it public was so that we could weed out the opinions of non-Catholics. The downside to it is that it may keep some from voting, but oh well.

Thank God for the Church.

I would include Pio Nono in that study, P2bc. That's when all the fun began.

This is a really great Poll! Thanx, p2bc!
