I'm about 15 years late with this, but my neighbour recently got myself and my wife into this game. We've been having a blast with it.

Thus far, I've got two somewhat decent decks made. A solid black and a solid green, though I prefer using the black deck, which at this point is mainly composed of vampires and is a decent attack/life regeneration deck, though I have no way to break enchantments or destroy artifacts. The other thing I've noticed is the lack of stacking cards with black. I have a few +1/+1 cards, but nothing that really adds heavy power.

Anyone else play?

I started playing my freshman year of high school, but stopped when I didn't know any people to play with. It was this past summer my friend got me back into it. I just made casual decks and still am not interested in tournament play. I do however play EDH now with my friend and I found it quite difficult to build a 99 card deck based around one legendary creature. I have spent way too much money on this game, but I'm also interested in "underground" card games, usually older TCG's that no one ever knew about or didn't last very long (Wyvern, Kingdom Hearts, Quest for the Grail, Star Wars CCG, Digi-Battle, etc).

My best deck right now is a green/white that deals with getting mana quickly on the field (Joraga Treespeakers, Journey of Discovery, Llanowar Elves, Kodama's Reach), as well as gaining a lot of life (Ajani Goldmane, Elspeth Tirel, Martyr of Sands, Congregate, Venser's Journal), to cast the almighty and costly Storm Herd card, or to generate as many tokens as possible and abuse Ajani's/Elspeth's abilities on my tokens (token generators: Storm Herd, Rhys the Redeemed, Elvish Promenade, Endless Swarm---->the only card I have seen that has the "Epic" ability!, Emeria Angel, Gilt-Leaf Ambush, etc.). I have pulled a few amazing wins with this deck (at one point I had at least 40 snake tokens on the field, then I managed to cast Storm Herd, with another 20 pegasus tokens). It's still not the best as it loses against my friend but it's such a fun deck to play with. I have at least 20 other normal decks as well as 2 EDH decks. Most of them are casual so they're not too good, but I do have an awesome red Haste deck I built.

One of the guys we played last night had an EDH deck and he completely stomped us. But then, he's a tourney player and amazingly knows every single magic card in existence it seems. Magic is pretty much all he does, so it's a good day when we can actually beat him. ;)

I think I might make a mixed deck next and I think I might be getting that new Fire and Lightning deck for Christmas that's all foil. Trying to restrain myself from buying more till the new fat packs come out in Feb but it's going to be hard. We did just get a deck builders toolkit so we have more than enough lands. heh

The Deckbuilder's Toolkit is great if you needed more lands or if you were a new player, or just wanted a box to carry all your decks/cards in. I bought one and it was nice to put all my decks in. IMO, EDH decks are only made to play against other EDH decks. I tried playing my friend with my newly made EDH deck (that has Jacques le Vert as my general; this guy is underrated) against his Standard tournament deck (60 cards) and he completely swamped me.:holy: But since then I made a 2nd one so my friend could play with one (general: Pavel Maliki----> also underrated and he has some awesome card art; I actually made a short but awesome fan-fic about him as a planeswalker).

I would recommend getting the Tezzeret vs. Elspeth duel decks. Both are rather fun. Elspeth is by far my favorite planeswalker and her original card art by Volkan Baga reminds me of renaissance portraits that are placed in wonderful backgrounds, where you usually see a kingdom far out in the distance or something. I have her original art as my desktop picture.

They just released a downloadable game for Magic called Duel of the Planeswalkers for PS3/360. Wizards of the Coast also made a turn based card game for the PS3 called the Eye of Judgment that works in conjunction with the PSEye. The camera actually recognizes the cards you place down on the "board" and literally shows you the battles on screen. An incredibly addictive niche genre game.

Sounds pretty interesting for interactivity while still collecting the physical cards. If they made a PC port, I'd be all over that.

My friend and I have been playing Magic online using OCTGN. It's a pretty neat system that is just like playing with the real cards in that it does nothing for you.

I also just got into this game. Coincidences eh?

I play with a green mana ramp deck with a sub focus on Eldrazis. My strongest Eldrazi card is known as Emrakul The Aeon's Torn. He has 15/15, Flying, Can't be Countered, Annihilator 6, Protection from Colored Spells, and Take an extra turn after this card is put into the battlefield. He costs 15 colorless mana, but with a little vernal bloom(which doubles the amount of green mana you have) and a bunch of green mana producing creatures(not to mention the Eldrazi spawns which produce 1 colorless mana in exchange for sacrificing them) he's not that hard to play.

I also have a red burn deck, a black/green infect deck, and a regular black deck.

Magic the gathering Online is a better incarnation imo. Sure it isn't as pretty, but its much quicker and you can actually build your own deck. Plus, for $10, you get a bunch of starting decks to play from the get-go.

My brother and I had thousands and thousands of cards back in the day. We only played with each other. Now I play occasionally with my other half, but never anybody else. Like was mentioned earlier, there is a 360 version which I'm pretty addicted to... But I had to give it up for awhile when we lost LIVE and because I was sinking too many hours of my life into it.

I'm stuck using a 5 year old Mac iBook, so I'm afraid the PS3 version would end up being far quicker in this case. I've just never really been able to afford top quality PC hardware, so I've always been a console gamer.

I'm still working on my collection. Most of the cards we have were given to us by friends who have been playing for a long time, so it's very scattered all over the different eras of cards. I did put on my list a box of M11 booster packs for Christmas and my wife keeps hinting I shouldn't be buying new cards (bought a single booster pack the other day... nothing spectacular in it though), so we'll see. :)

I used to play in high school but now, 5 years later in college, my fiance found my cards in the closet and asked what they were. Not only do we have about three decks per each of us but have also go a bunch of people hooked on it too. My fiance has an eldrazi similiar to the one mentioned early in the thread (emakrul*spelling*+ a card that taps one forest and puts any creature in your hand to the battle field=HAX)
I have a 8th edition black discard deck, an artifact deck(people wont even play against it because of how rediculous it is), and a newly created rainbow deck that focuses on a enchantments. Magic the gathering is awesome!

I used to play Magic. Got my friend into it for awhile too. This was back when 6th Edition was the main one. Still have that deck. Green deck for life! My green deck was based around creatures, creatures, creatures (and the mana to support those creatures). The four Thorn Elementals were the main backbone of my army. Then there were the Llanowar Elves. Can't forget the Llanowar Elves and their free mana.

My friend at the time made a white deck revolving mostly around healing himself and his creatures. Our games ended in stalemates more than a few times because I had too many things for him to kill and I couldn't do enough damage to hurt him.

Haven't really touched Magic since then, although he kept playing. I'm sure my deck would do pretty horribly against any of the new weirdness out there.

My black deck has alot of wrench minds, ravenous rats, destroy creatures, abysal specters, and two awesome enchantments: "Whenever a creature you control is put into a graveyard, every other player must sacrifice a creature" and "Whenever an opponent plays a spell they choose to discard a card or lose 5 life". Then I have a legendary 3/3 demon. "Whenever you play a land target player loses three life and you put 3 +1/+1 counters on this creature". I dont have an planeswalkers myself or titans for that matter. I went against a grave titan and the island titan, they are pretty nasty.
I have those Llanowar Elves in my rainbow deck, those things are awesome.

I used to play, though I don't play much anymore. I had a pretty nasty mono-white control deck that centered around total destruction and spawning giant angels, as well as tapping down the opponent's creatures so that they couldn't do anything. This deck laughed at slivers and at poison/infect (and at blue-white control, which was really popular where I was playing), but it had trouble against decks that rush and could out-rush mine. Sadly, it's outdated and not tournament-legal anymore, but I can still play for fun with it =)

I've also been meaning to build a blue-black EDH deck, though I haven't gotten around to doing so. I don't know why, but I seem to have a harder time playing black than any other colour. Makes me a little squeamish...
