• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I tend to read things like Field and Stream, Popular Science, and Outdoor Canada. There are a ton of magazines out there and most are available in Canada, even if they are published in the USA. Try looking at the magazines in the book section of Walmart or Superstore or someplace like that. You might find something that interests you. Or, if your local high school does a magazine subscription drive as a fundraiser, you could look at the booklets that they give out.

I read Newsweek, USAToday, and Time because they're available at school. The only one I actually recieve is World, a conservative Christian magazine that is kinda like Time. I'm more on the liberal side and it's my parents magazine, but it gives me a different perspective.

I haven't bought any magazines for a long time, but the only one that I was reading recently (which was late 2003/early 2004, as a point of reference) was Newtype USA. Got three issues of it, then my desire to buy it just sort of fizzled out.

I wish I could start getting it again, though. That would require me having a job, however, and that pursuit has been totally fruitless for almost the past two years, and I don't predict it getting much better either.

I used to read Cosmo a lot, but I'm not sure I like it anymore. It used to have good articles in it, really good ones about things I could relate to but unfortunately it's going the way of Cleo and Girlfriend and Dolly - most of the stuff in it is superficial, about silly celebrities, or all about how to 'get the guy' etc. Too bad, it wasn't a bad magazine about a year ago. :sigh:
