  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone take any macro shots? I bought a Canon Rebel about a month ago and took my first macro with it. The bee was about a 1/2 inch long. Pretty small little guy.

What do you all think of it?

Feel free to post some of your macro shots in here too. I would love to see what you have.

that's a brilliant shot. Quite difficult to take! Did you bribe the bee with some marmalade?

It was a fun shot to take. My son and I were out taking pictures of flowers when we seen these little bees buzzing in and out of these flowers. So we sat there for about 30 minutes shooting these little guys. They were pretty much at peace with us sitting there about 2 inches from them. This little bee happened to be climbing up and over into another flower. I think he was getting to tired of flying.

I took these macro shots 2 weeks ago at Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC. Thought I'd share too. I'm new in photography so i'm still learning :)

I've also got the Canon digital rebel. A couple weekends ago I rented the Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro, and was really happy. Not so much because I took exceptional pictures, but because it was so much fun poking my nose into nooks and crannies and taking pictures. I just need to sake a bit more money before I can buy it.

Uh, how do I attach images?

Thanks Miss Mayberry! You know, I never noticed that button...

I guess if the competition is starting, I need to get out and takes some "real" pictures. Macro is just a lot of fun to play with.

For those on a budget, here's how to take macro shots cheaply- (you will need an SLR)

1) Buy a cheap, second hand 50mm hand prime lens, and a "reversing ring". These are cheap attachements that allow you to put the lens on backwards. You attach the ring to the mount of your camera, and screw the lens on to it via the filter thread.

The quality is great, as good as a regular macro lens, and you can get the lens and ring for about £20 from good second hand stores.

2) Buy a close up filter. Quality is dodgy unless the lens is stopped down to F11 or F16. But for dreamy, soft focus shots, they are great. Filters cost a fiver and are available in various magnification factors.

The L-series? I rented that for a while with the 1.4 Teleconverter. What a hoot! I didn't get a single good picture though. I went to a bird sanctuary and took a couple walks through some nearby woods and got a lot (!!) of pictures, but none of them were that interesting. I'm sure there's a couple things that I'm missing... What are you planning on using the 70-200 for?

Bird shots, Sports(Dance pictures, soccer, baseball and football), Candid.
I also plan to go to the zoo and would love to get some good shots of the animals there.

I have spoke with alot of folks who take alot of bird photos. They said it is pretty hard to get a good shot. I got a few over the weekend. They turned out pretty good, but I would like to get a bit closer to them and I think that lens would be a big help for that.

Thanks for this info. :) I heard about this. I just need to get myself in gear and get some of these attachments.

Another good way to get a good macro is to use a magnify glass if you don't have a SLR. Just be careful you don't scratch you lens.
