Why do people say Maccabees is not historicaly accurate?

And God Bless All His Peoples.
My guess would be the same reason many Atheists insist other books of the Bible are not historically accurate. If it were meant to be a history book and to be read like one, perhaps they would have a point.
God Bless you and yours too!

I do believe the Old Testament is a History Book and is to be read like one. Jesus recited it like it was a history Book.

Agree that Jesus and His followers quote from the OT in the NT. Would even suggest that they also quote from some of the books removed from your Bible almost 500 years ago and also from non-scared writings. In any case, quotes and quoting by Jesus or His disciples cannot be a good measure for whether a book belongs or does not belong as part of sacred scripture. If it were then we would both have many more “books” of the Bible.

Should have said the Bible is not “just” a history book, for it does indeed contain historical facts and in some cases presents something of a historical record. In my school days no history book from my memory contained songs, philosophy, love stories, and allegories. Perhaps some have different experience with history books from me. My point was that while it could be looked at as the History of God’s revelation of Himself to man, it is not just a history book. IMO Psalms just does not have the same meaning if you try to read that like a history book. It is beautiful poetry, much of it meant to be sung.

Anybody got any details of the arguement against Maccabees being historicaly accurate, I think I heard somewhere that the timing of events in Maccabees did not seem to tie in with the timing of events reported by Josephus? any ideas?

And some of the Gospels, written much more recently, some by eye witnesses, do not agree on timing, sequence, numbers or direction...etc.
What is the point being made here? That "apparent" error should be grounds for removing a book from the Bible?
