  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I only know about him through his arguments with Zane Hodges. McArthur is a supposed "Lordship salvationist" while Hodges is a "faith apart from works" proponent. I have read Hodges "Absolutely Free" and though I may not agree with him on all points, I enjoyed the read.

He is dispensationalist and does teach predestination. He actually lost funding for a show (I think TV) because he wouldn't tone down that part of the gospel. He is solid on most fronts, despite his insistance on dispensational teachings. Here's his website:

John MacArthur is a rare breed. He is a consistently Calvinistic Dispensationalist. However, do not confuse the two. MacArthur is consistently Calvinistic at the expense of being consisently Dispensational.

MacArthur has actually been a capstone in the positive position of the Lordship controversy. Dispensationalism, being inherently Antinomian, denies that you must accept Jesus Christ as your Lord in order to be saved. The theology teaches that faith is enough, but it does not teach that faith without works is dead. MacArthur denies this and argues correctly that you must have works as a result of faith in order to have genuine faith. This is consistent with Calvin's doctrine.

I fail to see how MacArthur's dispensationalist views are in any way contradictory to his teaching on the doctrine of predestination....

I have his study Bible and a few of his books. He is a wonderful teacher of the Bible and a solidly Biblical preacher. He is, quite frankly, a breath of fresh air in a "seeker-centered" evangelical environment.

I love the radio program and am now finally able to listen to it.

Incedentially, Dr. MacArthur is a great friend of RC Sproul.

He is a solid baptist who is a Calvinist and a dispensationalist. Jon is right in his part in the Lordship controversy. He was right on target. Most dispeis are antinomian to the corp.

Ole Mac does wig out on the issue of alcohol. On that issue he is solid Baptist. (TOO bad.)

He and RC do seem to get together pretty often.

In Christ,
Kenith
