• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well I do not see that your post was addressed to anyone in particular, so I thought I would jump in and ask a question.

You say, ethics is a VERY VERY tricky topic. Perhaps so. But in what way do you mean? And may I ask what is your answer to the questions you have posed, both from what you have learned in this ethics class and what you think personally. Do you agree or disagree with what you are being taught?

Gerry-

Absolutely no offense taken. I was stunned because others consider me to be a purist as for as the literal commands of God. I have to evaluate the possibility that I have been duped in a sutble way.

Daughter of the King-

I would say that lying to save a life is lying but the person who lied would not be guilty of sin due to the higher truth of the sanctity of life.

(Does that sit well with you Gerry? I honestly want to know, with no mental reservations please.)

Blessings always- Patrick

Well, I would first say top you both to please understand, That I am making no claim to purism or perfection. I am not setting myself up as a judge or telling you I have never lied or committed sin. I make no brag that I am a sinner and I am certainly not proud of it.

Having said all that, I can tell you, that I UNDERSTAND lying to save a life.
Nevertheless God simply makes no allowance for the circumstance, because God is bigger than the circumstance.

You see if those lives were meant by God, in His Divine plan, to be saved, He would save them in a way easily available to Him. God is a God of absolutes. He will never tell you: Thou shalt not lie, and then turn around and whisper in your ear, "well OK, go ahead, this is different." No Jesus taught us that satan is the Father of Lies, and we are taught that no good thing can proceed from him. satan is the essence and the epitome of evil.
So I know I sound hard and unyielding, but there is no room in God's written Word for compromise.

It is where we as Christians get into trouble. We are forever "interpreting God's Word to make it fit our lifestyle and the circumstances we find ourselves in. But His Word has already been interpreted, and it the interpretation was for another people of another time, but the application is for us, in this time, and there has been no change in the interpretation.

Murder is murder, both then and now:adultry is adultry, both then and now: Lying is saying what is not true then and always, and none of it is situational, circumstantial, or graded in any way.

I believe God is Holy, fair, and just, and as He says He is no respector of persons. If there were a loophole, He would have told us all, and not left it for the educated deep thinkers to to glean for themselves alone.
