"Clown" collar is still better than a real circus clown -- a botoxed showbiz "pastor" in Italian suit and $60,000 luxury watch entertaining the crowd for money with "prosperity gospel" in a multi-million-dollar state-of-the-art megaplex church.

The Ruff Collar is a traditional link to, or symbol of the Royal household of Denmark I believe. I like traditions.:)

My Pastor in his sermon last Sunday, drew to our attention the difference between John the Baptist preparing the way of the Lord, and, in his words; "Television Evangelists with $200.00 haircuts and $6000.00 Italian suits pushing teaching prosperity through faith".

Clerical garb is interesting. Anyone remember when tabs where "in" for pastors?

I'd consider myself very much in touch with Scandinavian Lutheranism. I think the liberal churches there get a lot of "airtime" in forums etc but there are fabulous "Confessional" Lutherans in Scandinavia too.

There are two tragedies (IMHO) of the Lutherans in Scandinavia (and Germany for that matter) as far as I can see it. The first is liberalism/modernity which is essentially European anyway. The second is the hyper-Biblicism of certain American "Confessional" micro-synods that are selling their over-reactive spin on Church Fellowship and overt literalism to the conservative/orthodox Churches of the old countries. 'Tis a shame, I think.

I'm sure at least some of those "micro-synods" have reached their positions without having had to "buy" them from America..

Not sure. Would make an interesting discussion though.

The "tone" of my post...?

And that's what a classic strawman looks like.

Usually, posts follow other posts in chronological order, you know. If a poster wants to respond to a particular earlier post, there's the "quote" function to indicate that.

In posting my piece my assumption was that we Lutherans all agree amongst us that the smörgåsboard commercial mega churches have very little if anything to do with the Church of Christ and not just because of the clothing.
