  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok,I can tell right from the getgo that most of you wont agree with this, but I wanted to throw my opinion out there.Oh,and I'm new here, sorry if this has been posted a lot.

Lust is not a sin.Why?

Nice rational reply. But sin is sin beacuse God says so.

Because lust is essentially just temptation, associated often with sexual immorality.Lust is to desire something strongly, which is just temptation. To be tempted itself is not a sin.It is only a sin when acted upon.

Lust is an act or response to that which is tempting.

Wasnt Jesus tempted? The devil tried to lure him with many things in an attempt to get him to follow satan.Jesus was tempted, but without sin.Jesus was without sin.If he had taken everything,he would have sinned. But he did not act upon temptation.

What does that have to do with lust?

Also,I am aware of how Jesus says that you commit adultery if you even look or think about any woman. But what's adultery?"Voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a partner other than the lawful spouse."So,this occurs only if you're married.OK.Of course, this doesnt mean that you cannot commit sexual sin if unmarried, but it does mean a few things.

First,do you really think God meant you cant look at ANY woman at all?Don't you have temptation to look at your wife?Dont you become attracted to a girl BEFORE you marry her?Is a 14 year old sinning when he dreams about growing up and marrying a girl(probably a celebrity or something) and sex is a part of it?

What exactly are you trying to get to here?

My answer is no.Lust is considered a problem because it can lead to bad things. But it is only a sin if you act on it.That said,it may be best to TRY not to be tempted so you are not lead to do something bad,but being tempted in itself is not a sin.

How is lust only a sin if you act upon it if lust is an act? Lust is an action. You cna't lust without there being an action?

I dont see the big deal about lust.
Why is it I am sexualy turned on when I see a pretty woman?

Because your flesh desires that which is unholy.

Well its my natural desire to mate with a healthy woman.

What does your natural desire to mate with a healthy woman have to do with you lusting after a pretty woman? You can't have a desire to mate with a healthy woman without lusting.

good looks, good skin, athletic, good teeth, good smile, young... all these things I find sexualy attractive, because my biology recognizes that breeding with this woman would most likely result in healthy offspring.

Why must these things have anything to do with sexual attractiveness? Can these things not be admired without there being any sexual undertones?

This is probably the reason why I am not attracted to overly obsese, unhealthy, woman with a bad attitude.
On a particual bilological level, I know my offspring may not be born healthy.
Just because I lust after a woman, its disrespectful? I dont think so... it should be a compliment to the woman.
a woman who oozes sex appeal, doesnt make her less of a human being.
this is how I see lust, I see nothing wrong with it

I mostly agree with Ben. I am a teenager also, and I feel that some people beat themselves up unnecessarily over the issue of lust. Just don't let it get to the point where fantasizing takes up too much of your life, and remember to always respect the real person you wish to "be with". I'm not claiming what I say is Biblical, just that I personally don't think it's a very big deal.

You're a teenager, and specifically designed to feel rushes of hormones and sexual feelings. As long as you respect yourself, others, and don't become actually sexually involved, I don't see how "lusting" as morally wrong.

And Centurion,by "be with her" I meant, you know,go out on dates and stuff and movies and have fun like all the other boys do.As it stands, this girl is way out of my league(i'm very quiet at school) and I still have never actually had a girlfriend.I just wanted to know if it was ok for me to like her.You guys have been very helpful.

Sure, I hope I did help a little.
There is also a Christian only section if you want only Christian replies.

I wish you well. There is a lot working against you at this time, that's why it is a great time to learn how to avoid temptation and focus on God.

Shalom

Alright Centurion,I respect your opinion and I understand your point of view.Im dont mean there is a free pass to lust.I'll start with this.first,I only just turned 14 and have just found God.Therefore,I guess I should just stop arguing with all you guys who know way more than I.I know fornificating is wrong.I only said that because early on in the Bible it says that if a man takes a virgin and neither are married, they had to get married and could never divorce.I thought that law applied everywhere. That's what I meant.

I am not saying we should lust freely,I'm just asking:I'm 14,I like this girl in school. Is it ok for me to like, her,to dream about her at night,or to want to be with her? That's all I want to know.

Oh yeah, and that definition place says that a lust is a sinful LONGING, an object of desire, which is what I have been saying.Temptation can be linked to lust.I'm not trying to say you can get a free pass to lust, and I agree with you that there are boundaries. But cant you see that there can be a link to temptation and lust? They both revolve around desire!Longing! They can be similar.

Dude you have no controll over what you dream, why should you be punished for something you can't controll.

That's why I'm here, looking for an answer.I just cant help it.I like girls, and I like to think about them and see them a lot.I just cannot help it.I never do anything with a real girl, but I have trouble controlling my thoughts.I've seen porn before.Yeah, lots of it.I just cant help it.I wanna see a girl!I have no problem not doing anything in real life, but when I'm at home alone I lose control.

I'm thinking this is just major hormones and will get a little better as I grow, but I'm still looking for an answer and trying to STOP the porn and get closer to God.I've got all the commandments down, but i just cant seem to do this one thing.

I would suggest that you post a thread about it here:
http://www.christianforums.com/f389-struggles-with-sexuality.html

It's still an open area so you'll get the same Christian view vs. the world's, but at least it is a more proper place to be discussing this sort of thing. Maybe I can share there what helped me through the same struggle.

The definition of lust is 'A desire for something that you are not susposed to have'.

Ok, so lust is not wanting to be with someone. Only if that would be wrong does wanting it become lust. Due to this defintion you can lust over more than just someone of the opposite gender.

Correct, you can lust after wealth, lust after fame, lust after food, lust after idols (that which you place highest in your heart), etc.
