  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The two greatest commandments are:

Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Mt 22:37-40)

The second commandment implies that you love yourself. Do you love yourself? Because if you don't your relationship with God and your neighbors (everyone) cannot have the love that God calls us to in His two greatest commandments.

What are some ways you can love yourself?
What are some ways that show that you don't love yourself?

Sometimes as christians we think it is selfish to love yourself. Loving yourself is taking care of your physical and spiritual needs.
What are some ways we can take care of our spiritual and physical needs?

(Hope I've posted this in the right place...wasn't quite sure)

This is a really neat thread you started. I feel like when you love yourself physically, you do all that you can to be sure (your temple) is taken care of. I believe that even to the point of eating right, that is also loving yourself. Not to say that some of us do not indulge in foods that may be bad for you, I think we all do. But with that a respect has to be there for yourself also. There are so many things out there that one can do to themselves that show they do not love themselves. It could be a number of things. If something is going to hurt you physically, we shouldn't do it. We should love ourselves enough. It's interesting that you started this thread because for years I battled loving myself. Sometimes I still struggle. There have been things that I have done in my past that still tries to creep up on me, it still makes it hard to love myself. I just have to reach up and say Lord, show me how to love myself and others as You would love.

Spiritually, well God said He is spirit and those who worship Him must do it in Spirit and in Truth. When we make God our #1 priority, and all others things aside, I believe we allow the gift of love to consume us. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. All of these are acts I believe of loving in the spirit and the physical.
We have to stay prayed up and in the spirit. God Bless You and have a wonderful day:)

Very cool.
I am the sitter for our womens bible study at church and they have been going thru the "breaking free" series with the video tape. one day there weren't anykids so I sat in with them.. that was a great session. It helped me to sort thru somethings I had been praying over. Beth is annointed to say what the Lord wants you to hear. Let me know how it goes..

This is always a tough subject for me but I think God is currently working with me on this one.

The only way I have found to truly love myself is too 1st love God. If I am following in His ways I find less and less of negative thoughts towards myself.
When I love God first I tend to do things like take care of myself better, manage time and things better. After that things overflow to everyone else and I can react to people with love.

Although I maybe loving God sometimes I get hung-up on things and forgot He is bigger than anything I could do. So then I think I've messed myself up. In short I definitely don't like myself during those times and you can tell by my not so good reactions toward people (sometimes) but also that I slack off A LOT, I tend to think I am not worth it.

But God always gets me out, because I always come back to thinking that even if I'm not worth it that God is and then He pulls me out of my hole. If only I'd stop falling in ;)

Just4Jesus said it nicely here, taking care of the physical body, but I think one can include other elements as well. Things like taking time out from the world just for yourself. You know, taking care of the mental/psychological/emotional type stuff. Taking care of the whole person is ratehr important. We need to be whole for the Lord we love and serve :)

As we need to take car of the physical body
We need to take care of the spiritual and emotional body even more
By just reading the bible, mediatating, and praying
