• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Love.

Hi!

This is my first thread in a long long time. I will begin with this scripture.

1 Cor 13.4
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part...

I remember when I was a young Christian. I remember the sermons that I use to preach and classes I would try to teach. I really loved the Lord and I wanted him so much. I also wanted to know so much about him... I wanted to accomplish so much. But now looking back I didn't have a lot of these things listed above. I was privileged to sit under some of the best teaching available and some of the best mentors a person could have but even though so much of me was in the right place, a lot of me wasn’t.
I think it's easy to become arrogant and conceited and not even know that you are. It's easy to become proud of your knowledge and understanding. I believe a lot of these things listed above are not true for a lot of people today. It can be easy to become angry or impatient with a person when they don't agree with you especially when you believe you know something they don't or have a higher knowledge than they do. Anger, rudeness, a lack of trust in people who don't think the same as you do. A lack of hope that people who refuse to be like you will ever come to anything or know anything or the trust that they have reason what they believe or feel. There is also this ugly complacency about the lives of those different people. It can be casually discussed that unbelievers go to hell, that they have no reason to complain or blame, that doesn't sound much like the protection and perseverance that love is supposed to bring. I believe that sometimes religion or rather misused religion creates a valley between peoples and those enlightened ones look down at the lowly foolish unbelievers. People boast of how long they've served the Lord, how much success they've had, how much they know how well they can quote scriptures or pray out loud. Knowledge is something that we have that is not perfect, there is so much that we do not know. I find it significant to consider that we didn't choose the lives we were raised into or were given in say our first 20-25 years. It wasn't our choice or doing that we were given the opportunity to learn and grow and sometimes that is the only difference between ourselves and those who are different, a gift that was given to us that we did not earn. I think sometimes we should consider ourselves lucky beneficiaries of knowledge and wisdom because it was only a gift, not something to be proud of. I think it can be easy to get lost in tunnel vision of going for a noble cause and success that you lose the softness, gentleness and love and general goodness that we are supposed to have. Why are we so disagreeable and why are we so easily angered? Why is it sometimes not ok that people refuse to think or act like we do? Why can't we trust that they have reasons for what they do too? Love never fails, where knowledge and understanding and power fail, love can succeed and finds a way. That is to say that for all your effort and knowledge… sometimes the best thing to do is love. Religious activity can become a race, or a competition for some people. Sadly. Why does it matter who knows the most? Our knowledge is imperfect and partial, incomplete at best. It's like people use God to become little demigods themselves, the most knowledgeable, the most wise, the most successful, better than the unbelievers or those who don't know what we know.

Amen brother. I could have wrote that about myself. Our circumstances are different possibly but it seems grass is not greener on the other side. Our learning apparently is similar however. God has blessed us with the same knowledge. We are blessed by it. And foolishly proud of it also. Our knowledge came from God, no wonder us humans misuse it at times. God is good i love him so much. We both hold wisdom in one hand and foolishness in the other brother. May God help us both brother in Jesus name. Thank you, this has blessed me allot.

Sadly, you are correct, but God is in the process of seperating the wheat from the tares. It is those who humble themselves under the mighty hand of God who will endure to the end. We have re-created the entire Pharisee spirit in our Christianity but this is just the flesh in religious garb.

Until we seek to be freed from the flesh and its influence over our hearts, and get out from the control of the world, the flesh and the devil, not by our efforts and diligence, but by our trust in God to do in us what we cannot do in ourselves, we will see this pattern repeated ad infinitum.

Praise God, a re-discovery of God's promise that He will build us and keep us is now underway in these last days.

Blessings,

Bruce

Belief, we all have some and lack some. Maybe god is saying it's a team effort by only giving us part of what we need and someone else the other part. Working together seems impossible sometimes. Comes back to the love thing again i guess, something we all need and fail to have sometimes. Seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened unto you. On some doors my knuckles are swollen and bloody from repeated knocking. Or maybe i just keep knocking on an already open door. IDK

Just trying to help. I felt like wrighting, this is what i ended up with.

Godisreal36,

It is nice to meet you! Thank you for responding and I appreciate your kind words. Sometimes the more we learn we learn that we don't know and sometimes the more we learn the less we value knowledge in itself. There are so many occasions where understanding isn't the main ingredient for success, maybe its sincerity maybe its the power of God, maybe its a loving or willing heart. I agree with you. I remember my old bible college teacher talking about unity in the body of Christ. I don't remember all the verses that he used or how to say it all as well as he did but we are all one in Christ all a part of him and to some extent we do all need each other and without each other we are not complete and we can't fulfill the great commission without each other. We have many goals and tasks but that... is the great one.

Sorry Aldar i just saw the reply. It's nice to meet you also. I also agree with what you said. I'm a hypocrite like we all are, but this church unity thing sticks in my mind. But I'm nobody and not better than anyone, it's just something that attached itself to me. My dad had a problem with the hypocrisy in the church, maybe This is where i get it or maybe that's how god put it in my heart, idk.

Good night friend, maybe we'll talk 2morrow or the next day. Merry Christmas friend.
