• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ARe you sure there is an "it" to know about? Sometimes, it is better to ask what the term means than to try and search for an inevitable truth, out there, so to speak. How do you use the word? What do you mean by it when you use the term Love"? And if you use it in different ways, why assume that only one of them is correct?

Defiance of Logic?

It seems to me that whenever a human is in love, it tends to be illogical. Survival instincts for one's self tend to be converted to survival instincts for the person the human loves. It seems that defying logic intensifies the feeling of love.

It seems to defy logic if you think logic demands humans behave antisocially. It does not.

What is love? Is it just an emotion or a connection between spirits? Will we ever truly know what it is?

I believe it is both, and so much more. True and pure love connects us, not only to other spirits, but also to the Divine. Left to our own devices, we as a people are selfish creatures; from the positive selfishness of self-preservation, to the negative selfishness of self-serving narcissism. A real, palpable love causes us to transcend that selfishness, and desire better for another apart from, or even opposed to, our own desires. The greater the love, the greater the possible sacrifice. (John 15:13)

I don't believe I've ever heard of a sacrifice that didn't involve love in some way, and I consider sacrifice a divine virtue.

Druweid

But how does that make human emotions illogical? They have reason therefor they are logical.
Please tell me you are not serious. Please, before I lose all hope for humanity.

Explain to me why self preservation involves anti-social behavior for a human.
It does not. He just said that.
