Luk 10:27 He answered: " 'Lovethe Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' ; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' "
It is June and the weather here in the UK at present is great, but in the midst of all our sun worshippig this summer are we the children of God rememberig to turn our attention to the Son? I have spent several hours over the last few days just soaking in the sun, enjoying the good weather and enjoying the wonders of nature at the coast. It has also been a time to still myself and just soak in God's presence as I have listened to worship music on my mp3 player. We are a fortunate generation, we in the West particularly in English speaking countries have so many translations of the Bible to choose from and can take the sound of worship with us wherever we go. Surely we should be thankful for what we have, bu has the pursuit of God become too easy? When we turn an mp3 player or ipod on are we really seeking to go deeper with the Lord, or do we seek something other than the Lord first and foremost? This is my own questions to myself. Let it be Jesus I pursue, and Him I serve. May His love- 'agape' love shine through me to others. All of my heart- hat means every part of it - withholding nothing, But it doesn't even end there all my energy - srengh must be engaged in pusuit of my God and my mind too. Then from that place love for others should flow.
I used to think it was God first others second, self last, but if we look at just this verse we can see that we must first love God, then love ourselves because if we loathe ourselves how can we begin to love others. God created us in His image, we are His kids- we belong to Him so how dare we despise that which God loves. So as we are transformed more and more into His image, as new creations in Christ being made holy and falling more and more in love wih Him, out of our hears should flow rivers of living waters which brings life and love and from there love to others should flow, for we learn to love as He loves.
LET US SHOW LOVE ONE TO ANOTHER
He wants us to love like He loves,
He wants us to show compassion and love,
To love one another as he has loved us,
Treating others as we would have them treat us.
So Lord we ask you to change our hearts,
That we, your people making a fresh new start,
Might gather together united, in one accord,
Rather than speaking to others that last hasty word.
So we need to get our focus right, with Jesus first,
For when we truly come and for him thirst,
Everything else starts to fall into it’s God given place,
And we can treat our brothers and sisters with grace.
We willspend eternity together, worshipping our King
And his praises forever together we will sing,
So since the first fruit of the spirit is love,
Let us all start now on a new learning curve.
Learningto show love as he would have us do,
A humble and contrite spirit he would have us pursue,
For when we see others as more important than self,
The desire to prove that we are right will be left.
For ourHeavenly Father wants us to first show love,
He does not want us intent our own point to prove,
The Word says we will know them by their fruits,
So showing love, grace and mercy should be our pursuit.
Teach usyour ways our dear Lord and Saviour,
That we might indeed be salt full of savour,
And may our light shine in this world of men,
As we learn to show love to one another and to them.
