  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is something I've thought about a lot. Sometimes I've taken it as real love never goes away, so you never stop caring about someone (even if they're not someone who cares about you) and sometimes I wonder if it means that if you do things in love you will eventually succeed... I've thought of other interpretations as well. Maybe it means all of these sorts of things?

Interested in what other people have to say.

The OP wants opinons about: "Love never fails."

This might work with God, but people are not "built" to have a never-ending amount of Love.

So, I think the verse is not True, in practice.
People get annoyed -- they strike back ... their Love fails.

If there ARE a few people who can feel this non-stop positive-ness, I haven't met one yet.

Many people try to live as lovingly as possible ... but it's always a Work-in-Progress.

It seems like Paul was trying to get the church to understand that all of these gifts came from the all loving God that expressed His love for us by His obedience to the cross in sacrifice. Whatever gifts we have been given, we are to use them backed with the love of Christ. Because He sacrificed Himself for us, when we realize this, we are to be motivated by this love in our relationship with Him, our earthly relationships, and offering our bodies as a living sacrifice to God in holy living.

 I rarely post so I hope this is clear and no mumbles!

The OP makes me think of Gal. 5:22.."the fruit of the Spirit is Love."

As for the quote I Corinthians 13:8...the other things do pass away..only love lasts because all love comes from God. God is love and God is eternal.

And finally this: "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us; He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." (1 John 4: 7-11)

Thanks for the replies! :) here's what it means to me....

If we do something with love, God will make sure that something good comes out of it...even if not right away. No matter how fallen a person is, if we treat them with love it would change them....and once we die, we will lose all our successes and money, etc, but what we did with love will remain and will be rewarded in the end. It's the only thing that will count from everything we did here on earth.

And of course, most importantly, God loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for us...and this was the most powerful event in the history of the world, and by His sacrifice we are redeemed...the captives are set free, the poor in spirit hear the word of Life... it is the ultimate expression of His love! And when all things will be renewed, God will destroy evil and death and satan will lose the war...Hallelujah!

God's love has overcome death. It never fails.

 True, but love is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit! If we rely on ourselves to be loving, we will ultimately fail..because you're right, we do not have a never ending amount of love. But God does, and if His Spirit is living within us, He can help us out! :) So...I would say that we fail, but love itself doesn't fail...in this, I agree with this verse.
God bless.
