I have been more or less "wandering" in whichever direction the wind blows me in for the last year or so. Depression is a MAJOR headache in my life and seems to be causing problems between my fiance and I. I also have not been working due to lack of motivation derived from my depression. Sleep is also a problem..I suffer from insomnia I maybe sleep only a few hours in a couple days then I can sleep for a few days at a time. Friends are scarce and that also goes for my family. They just dont know what to do or how to "help." I try turning to God but it feels as though when I do things only get worse or the little hope I did develop gets stripped away. I am in desperate need of something...possibly direction...but I am not sure...any advice would be greatly appreciated...along with a prayer.

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You'll find there are many of us here on CF who can relate to that, because you see, we all go through trials and tribulations. Many of us have times where we wonder if we will make it. Depression can be quite a snowball. Keep doing little things that will help pull you into a more hopeful mode. It's hard to fight for your survival when you have no energy. But focus on tiny rewards.

PS I suffer from depression as well and also there are nights where I can't sleep at all because my mind and emotions won't rest. My boyfriend, who I'll probably end up marrying one day, has been very sweet and very very supportive and gentle with me because of it, so I'm very blessed. Some how he just knows how to help me... and when I'm ready to run away from things, he knows when to let go and let me have my space or when to keep me in his arms and not let go.
I pray that the Lord would bless your relationship in this same way. It's hard, but there are others who know how you feel. Feel free to send me a pm if you ever want to chat... my boyfriend's name is Sean and his account here is scorcher505.
