I'm 23 years old and God has been so good to me and my wife and kids. We hit some hard times that have lasted a couple years now but I think the light is finally kind of showing at the end. I have an amazing wife amazing kids a nice house 3 cars and a dog. I'm blessed but I can't shake the feeling I'm missing something. I have a great job that I thought I wanted to do but now I'm not so sure. I feel trapped in this life " I wanted " and I feel like I've lost my way. I know to call out to God but yet I don't. I know he's real bc of life things I've been through. So why do I feel this way. I just want to have a deep conversation about anything. God I need something I just not sure what that is.

Whenever I feel restless and discontent, it's usually the Holy Spirit unctioning me to press into my prayer closet and spend more time with Him for direction. We want to grow with Him, not stagnate. As we grow, the things of this world "we wanted" begin to lose their appeal and we look to Him for that more abundant life that only He can lead us into.

nailed it!
there is a difference between serving ourselves by satisfying our wants, and appreciating what God has yet in store for us.
OP has seen the light at the end of the tunnel, wonders what is ahead, but not so sure whether it is sunlight or a another train light.

could be a choice ahead...plan well.

I can relate with your story in a long 13 year kind of way. I thank God now that I am not walking in the valley, but the reward of being drawn to him and not my own life, has made a huge difference in how I feel.

I am not suggesting you made bad decision; yet there is this thing called friendship with God that He wants. Initially it is all about us; because we were born into a world of tradition and circumstances that cause us to depend on self and self achievement. Again I am not saying your achievements are self designed; but I am saying a carefully crafted cage of our own comfort comes at a cost of keeping him distant.

We need, of all creatures, to shed the past payments of our own toil and put off the old man of do's, don't and indifference with God and put on the new which is altogether sure to share with God in thought, deed and will.

This took Joseph 13 years. He learned dependence on God. The 14th year he was exalted to a high place of authority after he lost everything. Others like Ester were given high command and comfort to relieve others. Some like the disciples had much and little success as fishermen; yet Jesus said you give and expect so much in return, how satisfied are you; sinners do that. He was suggesting a life both of learning the fullness of His offering at the cross and by his fullness living sacrificially.

The idle life of living for self is draining, and full of complaining. There is no joy in getting all your ducks in a row unless God is putting order to things. Sometimes we try to order, order, and reorder our helpings and our lives, thinking this will satisfy. No. Only being served by Jesus and then letting Jesus serve through us is satisfying.

Claim one thing. Claim the truth about Jesus' friendship with you. The bible will transform an idle, bored mind; when we ask God for passion. There is no limit to how much passion he'll give you; unless you serve your own world with it and not expand his Kingdom. However you have to let the Spirit enlarge your heart first; this comes with patience and experiencing God in the midst of dying times.

God be with you and your family! Stop by my profile if you would like to take a look at my devotional website offered at my personal page. Otherwise keep the fire lit by a little prayer and bible reading. God is sure to strike a new interest in you in the midst of the old patterns dying. God is for his creation and never let's his people go to far without pursuing them with open arms. He is longing for the benefit of seeing his Son come home. Spend time thanking him and ask him to enlarge your capacity to hear and see him. The Father loves those who take the last thing he said and run with it!

Isaiah 61:3
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
KJV

Isaiah 61:3
to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
ESV

Isaiah 61:3New International Version (NIV)
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

Hi Rhino, Thanks for sharing what's going on in your life and being real and honest. I'm not sure I have anything that will help, but my thoughts are that you may not be seeing the greater purpose in your life. It's great that you believe in God. It's also great that you know reaching out to Him in search of a closer relationship with Him is important. I realize that you say, you don't find yourself reaching out... but I am guessing you will eventually. It sounds like you are right on the edge of doing so. When you do, I am guessing you will find it to be profound. When you knock...the door is opened.

We are all part of a grand purpose that God has. Our role is to answer the supreme calling; "Be you perfect, even as I am perfect." We are to seek to move in the direction of perfection. To take the example that Jesus gave for a life of love for His fellow man, and surrender to God's will and of close communion with God and try to follow it. As we learn to understand our fellow man, this understanding (from his point of view) leads to respect, which develops into affection and matures into love. As we seek to do this we are in sync with God's will. Our job is to love God with all our heart, mind and stength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. As we do this, we are then on the pathway to God and we are participating in His great plan for our lives. That plan involves spiritual growth through a long evolutionary process (in this life and beyond), that is filled with joy, satisfaction, adventure (and yes; also challenges, adversity and hardship which fosters growth). If we persevere, one day we will stand in God's presence and experience the unimaginable euphoria of His divine presence. Until that time, we have His spirit which lives within us to guide us. The spirit presence of God within us is an amazing thing which, once we fully digest is truly amazing.

"The goal of eternity is ahead! The adventure of divinity attainment lies before you! The race for perfection is on! whosoever will may enter, and certain victory will crown the efforts of every human being who will run the race of faith and trust, depending every step of the way on the leading of the indwelling Adjuster [God's Spirit] and on the guidance of that good spirit of the Universe Son [The Spirit of Truth], which so freely has been poured out upon all flesh." The Urantia Book.

God has given us all free will which if exercised in the pursue of truth, beauty and goodness, will contribute to the accomplishment of God's plan. Being in partnership with God is not trivial. It is a life of profound purpose. Life isn't about the things of the world. Life is about chosing the things of the spirit... "running the good race".

I recommend you reach out to God in prayer. If you want, let me know and I'll pray with you. Wishing you all the best in finding the meaning that apears to be missing (but is just temporarily out of sight).

Wow and thank you. I'd appreciate the prayer. I think your right I feel like I'm on a edge and tittering and I just need to make up my mind. May God bless you. The last few years have been trivial and hard but growth is to come. Some were along the road I questioned God and I shouldn't have. I believe that's why I'm in this spot now. I will pray and seek him and let him move. I will knock and wait to see if the door will open.

Thank you this has helped me and really got me thinking. I think on my ride home from work tonight I'll pray and talk with God. May God bless you. I'm very new to this forum so I'll try to follow your devotion you talked about.

I used to have a very promising career when I was your age but I was also missing something.

And then I lost everything, my career, my lifesavings, etc. Now I'm 35, couldn't even hold a stable job. But I found something that I missed.

Be careful what you ask for. The things that do matter will cost you everything!

Watch out. The last time I felt like I was missing something I ended up losing a kidney and gaining a husband.

Ha! Pray hard, talk to your wife about this. Maybe ... have you perhaps thought about speaking to God about this?

I'll pray for you. Let me know, please.

All good things

hey, I was once where you are. sometimes we depend too much on our feeling to live, but we should live on the truth. No matter what happens, good or bad, we should keep telling ourselves God is good. The devil is messing up our feelings time to time.although we can not see god but we believe he is doing good things or, the best for us. in Romans8:28in all things god works for the good of those who love him. It`s great you notice your hidden feelings, you just need a little work on faith. you can read the scripture, u can pray for what you need, way, light, wisdom, joy, peace, and u can help others to strengthen their faith, etc. You`ll do great, friend

First of all when you pray tell God everything about how you feel. He knows anyway so I see this as just showing Him your willingness to bring it to him. One thing has come to mind while typing this, the sin of omission - not doing what we are meant to do and to be honest alarm bells are ringing for me as well. Are you doing all you should for God? Tithing, serving, etc? Do you attend church regularly and are you active in the church? Do you pray and worship him regularly?

I dont want to know the answer to those questions, thats between you and God.

I did a study on the greatest commandment recently after I felt God led me to do so and God really spoke to me through it. In particular Mark 12:29-30. It starts "The Lord our God the Lord is one" and God spoke to me about having a loving relationship with the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit through this scripture. So often the church just focuses on one person of the Trinity but I think all parts of our walk with God need balance. At the moment the Church seems to be focused on thankfulness to the Father for his grace. That is only one aspect of a right relationship with the Lord (all three persons of the Trinity) and the others should not be ignored.
