• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Do any of you who have OCD experience loss of interest for certain things?

Things that I normally love I have a hard time sticking with. For instance, I basically quit playing guitar because when I do play it, I get this feeling of disinterest when trying to get better. Its not that I simply don't like it, it happens with everything. Its sort of similar to what this person said in this topic:

http://www.christianforums.com/t4602548-anyone-else-have-trouble-feeling-emotions.html

I guess its kind of like that. Sometimes I just feel dry, or blank with certain things. I'm starting to get into computers, and its really hard to learn anything with these dry/blank feelings I get. So is there anyone else who has OCD get a loss of interest? I'm curious if this is a symptom of OCD or if its something else. Sometimes I believe its something that God does, like maybe I am following my will instead of His, so He blanks out certain things so I can do what He wants rather than my will.

I am really prone to getting bored. I have always been this way. When I took a job that was less intellectually stimulating that's when my ocd got really bad.

I also "commit" to different hobbies and completely change. I haven't surfed in 6 months and surfing was a huge part of my life; now I don't even feel like going. I'm now running instead which at least is replacing one activity with another. Every so often I feel like making a huge career change, even though I have so much invested in my current career. I have the itch to move about every 2 years (my poor wife).

Maybe we'll get bored with our ocd ;-). Actually my obsessions have changed in the past as I am sure is "normal."
