  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Losing My Faith

Okay. I haven't been a Christian for long, a little over a month, but I'm already losing my faith. It wasn't so hard up at the teen retreat where I got saved. Mainly because I was surrounded by good Christian people. And for a week after I got home I was okay. I read the Bible every night. Me and my cousin/best friend, Elle, stayed up till 5 A.M. swapping Bible verses. And we had the most fun doing it.

But then, my schedule started getting really hectic. Band camp came and so did cheerleading tryouts, and then practice. And time just started to fly by. And then, on August 19, at 12:10 A.M., my grandmother passed away. And I know she's up in Heaven, where she is with God, but I still can't get over it.

And now, I just don't feel the same as I did before. I go to church every Sunday, but...it's not the same. I want to stay a Christian. I love the way it feels to have God in my life. But it's so hard. And I don't know what to do.

Can anyone help me? Is there anyway to keep my faith in God?

Hey! :)

That's awesome you decided to seek our creator! Do you mean you are having trouble believing God exists? Is there something about your religion that you find hard to believe? It doesn't sound like you suddenly lost your interest if you resorted to coming here.

I like to read these books, it's basically scripture with some running commentary. Yada Yahweh - You'll learn so much you never knew about our Father. It might sound suprising, but also a lot of information that churches won't teach. The fullfilled prophesies and myricals recorded in scripture are proof that He is our creator, since no man can possibly know what the future will hold; only God.

It's a book so of course you'll need to do a lot of reading :p But nothing developes more faith than learning more about who He is. Talk about it with Him :)

I didn't really just stop believing, but it's just gotten...a lot harder to keep my faith going. And I know it will only get harder, but I just want to keep believing.

I might look that book up. I don't think I'll be able to get it anytime soon. But I'll try. Thanks. :)

Hey :)

The first few months of faith will probably be the hardest - right now you just have to stick it out. Just hold onto your faith. You won't always 'feel' like it, but faith is about perseverance as well. It's good that you want to keep your faith - that's a good sign.

Keep reading your Bible and praying everyday. It's so important, even when you don't feel like it, because the Bible is what God has given us so we can get to know him. One thing about being a Christian is that we have to live differently to what we did beforehand, and it's the Bible that gives us guidelines for that. It's hard to keep up when schedules are hectic, but it's at those hectic times when it's most important to keep walking with God. Who better is there to help us and sort us out when we're super stressed?

So...if you want to keep being a Christian, pray, pray, pray and pray again. Read your Bible, and do what it says. I'll be praying for you :prayer: If you want any advice on what to read/explanations of Bible passages, feel free to PM me :)

I just noticed that you said it will only keep getting harder to believe. That's not necessarily true. I'm not saying it will always be easy, because it won't. (It will always be worth it, though.) There are times when it's easier and times when it's harder to believe...just like everything else in life. Once you've been a Christian for a while longer and things have steadied out a bit you'll have a firmer base to rest on.

But yeah...keep holding on, and remember that God has promised never to leave you or forsake you. And if you want to know anything, or just talk, PM me:hug:

What do you mean by keeping faith?

Continue believing in God or continue your passion for God?

I wont answer the first now but one thing my pastor said he did when he was younger was that he and one of his friends would challenge each other to grow in their faith in God. No a 'I'm better than you' challenge, but more like pushing each other to pushing forwards when the other is down. Maybe that would help you?

Real life is gunna be harder than teen Christian retreats..... I know it is because I have been going to a teen Christian camp for a week in the summer for the last 5 years. The time away gives you a boost but the problem comes about a month after getting back when 'real life' surrounds you again.

Just because your passion now may not be the same now as it was at first you can have that passion all the time but it takes really following Jesus.

"Either Jesus rose Easter Day- or He did not. And if He really did rise from the dead, if He really died for our sake- then this is so overwhelming that it must permeate our entire life."

That's a good way of putting it.

What helped me when I first started in my Faith with God was/is just listen to your favorite Christian artist, listen to your favorite version of the Bible Audibly while your off or online and of course the main thing is to talk to God. Try your best to forsure do those 3 things and you'll stay on the Path. Oh and also if you trully Love Him you will always remain with Him even though you may waiver from the Path. :)

I'll be keeping you in my prayers okay

We all doubt and "lose" faith at some point sister. I found your thread by searching "losing faith christian" on google (well, your previous unanswered thread).

So you see it's a struggle we all share in. God is faithful. He loves you. You will come around, all who believe in Him will. Answering you I find comfort in my own words.

Isn't his love and grace amazing? Praise God.

Okay, here is what I have learned.

1. Schedule? Oh crap.. I have this after school, going to friends house at 4, tennis at 6.. Sounding familiar? Well, guess what, I bet you and I have one minute in the morning to pray and/or read the bible. Just one verse, just one prayer, can make a HUGE difference in the day!
2. What you experienced was a "Christian Camp High" you get home all happy and excited about Christ, and last about a week before crashing completely and feeling like a loser. You aren't, you just haven't learned how to integrate school and God yet! And again, the answer? Prayer and reading your bible, finding those people at school that share your passions for God!
3. Music is a really easy way to intigrate what you love about music with what you love about God! Here is a list of some great bands and the genre;
Skillet- Hard Rock
UnderOath- Screamo
Firefight- Moderate Rock
Relient K/Hawk Nelson- Pop-alternative Rock
TobyMac- Rap
These are easy ways to get your "daily worship" on your way to work, school, friends house! :D

Hope these help, just remember, Pray! God will help you!
